Department Description:

Under the direction of the Employee Performance and Evaluation Officer or the designated supervisor, the Instructional Specialist - Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) will be responsible for working closely with the Instructional Supervisor - Peer Assistance and Review on all components specific to the peer assistance review program. Specifically, the Instructional Specialist - Peer Assistance and Review complete daily operational tasks related to PAR. The person occupying this position also supports the day-to-day work of consulting teachers. This position will also operate as a conduit to all of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) as it relates to professional development and teacher support.

This is an ASASP Unit II Table F Grade 2 Position

Salary Range: $93,708- $129,715

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Assist the Lead Consulting Teacher(s) and Project Manager in the development and implementation of professional development opportunities, workshops and seminars for Consulting teachers, as well as other district teachers, administrators and employees;
  • Perform administrative tasks that support all aspects of the PAR program;
  • Complete day-to-day tasks to support administrative duties of consulting teachers and related support staff;
  • Supporting consulting teachers in meeting professional learning outcomes;
  • Assist with obtaining and maintaining reports on all client teachers from consulting teachers;
  • Support the Instructional Supervisor in the hiring process for all consulting teachers and administrative staff;
  • Collaborate with the Office of Employee Performance to integrate the peer assistance and review process into the system-wide evaluation process;
  • Provide training on Peer Assistance and Review for all instructional and administrative employees;
  • Create and conduct presentations (Face to face, Webinars, Independent etc.) and training as requested and required;
  • Create reports, provide and track metrics related to Peer Assistance and Review, as required;
  • Collect and analyze data to indicate trends, patterns and implications in order to convey through presentations and special reports; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience preferred;
  • Ability to be certified in the Framework for Teaching observation process;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Framework for Teaching observation process;
  • Two or more years of experience with the Framework for Teaching Observation process;
  • Extensive experience as a teacher leader or building administrator;
  • Ability to proactively work in partnership with others to achieve a common goal or necessary objective (i.e. build rapport and cooperative relationships with others);
  • Ability to effectively convey reliable, accurate information so that the recipient clearly understands its intent. The successful applicant uses appropriate written, verbal, or electronic communication format to disseminate information;
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations on a variety of subject matters particularly the Framework for Teaching, to a variety of audiences and through a variety of mediums;
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize within a fast paced, rigorous environment;
  • Ability to support, manage and develop reports for multiple programs at the same time;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients at all levels within an organization;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to design, implement and facilitate systemic, large-scale conferences, workshops and events for a variety of employees;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, conducting on-line training opportunities and other technological platforms and programs (i.e. Oracle, Excel, Google etc.);
  • Must have ability to analyze issues, shift priorities, and cope with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment;
  • Makes customers and their needs a primary focus. Takes appropriate immediate action to meet customer needs and concerns. Takes personal responsibility to resolve the issue(s); and
  • Actively participates as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals. Informs and involves others by sharing important relevant information with stakeholders. Places higher priority on team or organizational goals than on own goals.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's degree in Education or Professional Development (or closely related discipline) required. Building level experience in a supervisory role required. Must have experience evaluating personnel; along with a minimum of two years of work with the Framework for Teaching.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Advanced Professional Certificate; Administrative I Certification Required.; Administrator II preferred; Framework for Teaching Certification preferred.

    Some program management oversight/responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Highly demanding and fast-paced. Frequently required to work long hours, nights and weekends. Annual leave may be limited during specified timeframes.
