Director of Career and Technical Education

Directs the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to include all CTE course offerings in each secondary schools along with all CTE programs offered in each Career and Technical Education Center and Adult Education for the school division. Directs a staff of professional and support instructional personnel.  Performs work under state and federal guidelines that address staffing, financing and monitoring programs, training and purchasing of career and technical equipment for all secondary and CTE schools.  Work is performed under broad policies and established objectives; incumbent independently interprets policies; decisions and actions impact the entire system.  Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels within and outside the school system to execute and explain programs and policies.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Provides leadership in promoting the opportunities available in career and technical education to students, parents, and the community and school staff.
  • Leads, supports, and promotes all aspects of the strategic plan for the school division related to Career and Technical Education.
  • Supports level directors and their goals and objectives aligned to the strategic plan
  • Provides leadership in the planning, implementation, monitoring and financing of career and technical education programs for the division.
  • Interprets state and federal policy, procedure and guidelines related to career and technical education. Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Works with the Virginia Department of Education and local businesses to develop new curricula for expanding career and technical education offerings for the division.
  • Ability to create partnerships and establish advisory committees to support the program offerings at the school.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of principles, concepts, and methodologies of school administration; extensive knowledge regarding secondary instructional program planning, development, and implementation; demonstrated knowledge and experience to plan, organize and direct complex organizational components.  Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations relative to career and technical education and ability to interpret and apply the regulations.  Ability to listen and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Ability to direct and evaluate a diversified administrative and professional staff.  Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long range planning, and forecasting.
Requirements: Must hold a valid Postgraduate Professional teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision. Prior teaching and administrative experience in a career and technical education setting required.
