Primary Purpose
Provide opportunities for student athletes to participate in athletic events and ensure that programs are well
organized, efficient, competitive, and fair. Enforce all rules and control financial and physical elements of athletic
programs.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Knowledge of overall operations of athletic program
• Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
• Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
• Ability to manage budget, personnel and coordinate district function
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience
Three years coaching or related experience in public schools
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Program Management
1. Ensures athletics is supportive of the instructional goals and objectives of the district and the attainment of the
campus performance objectives
2. Assists and equips schools with the purchase of athletic equipment
3. Makes travel arrangements (motel, food, transportation) for out-of-town athletic trips for selected sports
4. Assists in the preparation of the football program
5. Attends, supervises, and officiates athletic functions
6. Plans and conducts meetings, clinics, and in-service to promote staff development
7. Attends coaches' meetings, Athletic Director meetings, conventions, and athletic events
8. Secures, assigns, and supervises staff and security personnel for all stadiums and play-off sites
9. Organizes, administers, and supervises game management for athletic events
10. Manages tickets for all athletic events including security, inventory, ordering, color coding, dispersal,
collection, audit, and control
11. Coordinates and supervises payroll for game management personnel
12. Performs other assigned duties as may be assigned by Supervisor
13. Schedules out of town trips and playoff negotiations.
14. Assists in maintaining records of the University Interscholastic League district committee actions, rulings, and
meetings.
15. Reviews and revises athletic policies, bulletins, and athletic handbook.
16. Supervises athletic and selected sports programs
17. Assists in informing and advising principals and coaches regarding league activities, rulings, interpretations,
and District committee actions.

Budget and Inventory
18. Writes cash receipts and deposits funds returned from athletic travel for all sports, reimbursed by schools for
overspending their budges and guarantees from other schools
19. Assists in preparing the annual budget for the Athletic Department and the control of expenditures within the
approved budget
20. Inventories and checks facilities and equipment
21. Compiles equipment budget requests, checks for proper descriptions, sizes, manufacturers' specifications,
legality of equipment, and prepares bids for all sports
22. Examines bid returns and selects items to be purchased by quality, price, and specifications
23. Prepares a distribution list for the athletic storeroom and supervises distribution of equipment
24. Audits financial statements for all revenue producing sports and deposits checks in the bank
25. Maintains running balance of all athletic budget accounts and bills schools for overages
Community Relations
26. Articulates the district's mission and goals in the area of athletics to community and solicits its support in
realizing mission
27. Demonstrates awareness of district and community needs and initiates activities to meet those needs
28. Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises support staff and the coaches of selected sports
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Maintains emotional control under stress
Travels frequently between districts and throughout state
Able to withstand outdoor exposure to sun and heat
May encounter occasional prolonged and irregular hours
