Adjunct Teacher, High School Modern Dance

The ideal candidate is experienced as a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer. This position involves teaching modern dance technique as well as choreographing for several annual student productions. These classes are designed to focus on strengthening musicality, clarifying rhythms, and technical precision with an emphasis on performance quality and stage presence. Using the foundations of Horton, Dunham, and African, this class will explore Commercial, Contemporary, and Lyrical Hip Hop as well as Theatrical Dance Composition. This class will introduce the students to a style and aesthetic that is cutting edge and speaks to where dance is and is going in the concert and commercial realm.

Salary:
Salary: $35.38 an hour

15 hours per week (12:45 PM - 3:45 PM)

Does not include health care benefits.

Qualifications:
- Practicing dancer with proven modern dance performance history.

- Teaching experience with diverse audiences - middle school, high school, studio, and /or community settings.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Collaborative and creative team player.

- Collaborative work with community arts organizations.

- Preference given for applicants who hold a BFA in Dance with a Concentration in Modern or professional experience equivalent.

- Knowledge of and experience in other genres and performance background a plus.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Prepare and teach stimulating classes in modern dance to students aged 14-18 and prepare students for a professional career in dance.

2. Create choreography for 2-3 annual student productions, select accompanying music and coordinating costume.

3. Nurture each student to maximize their potential in modern dance.

4. Assessment and support of individual student learning styles.

5. Utilize differentiated instruction to support all students according to their accommodations and learning styles.

6. Ensuring a culture of rigor and discipline.

7. The sensitive handling of students' emotional needs, giving constructive criticism, encouragement and confidence.

8. Create a welcoming, healthy and safe learning environment for all students to grow and learn by setting class-based rules and boundaries that are centered on mutual respect and understanding of our core values.

9. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.

10. Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA Dance faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.

11. Maintain student attendance records.
