  • HOURS PER DAY: 5
  • SCHOOL YEAR POSITION (193 DAYS / 10 MONTHS)
  • TIME: Split Hours from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Assist in the operation of the Express program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Implement a schedule of activities and events before and after school for school-age children.
  2. Assure proper care and maintenance of the facilities being used in the Express program.
  3. Supervise all children who are enrolled in the Express program.
  4. Assist the Express site director in the development of program and activities.
  5. Maintain records as required.
  6. Carry out appropriate and positive discipline as established by the program coordinator.
  7. Perform other such duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrated experience and ability in working with elementary students.
  4. Experience in school setting or equivalent youth program preferred.
  5. Education in child development or related field desirable.
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in basic communication skills.
  8. CPR certificate, first aid card, and food handler's permit required upon hiring.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
  10. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  11. Physical ability to walk with students on field trips, bend and stoop. Physical ability to chase/run after students, when necessary, in order to maintain safety of students. Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  12. Willingness to assist students with personal hygiene in accidental or emergency situations when necessary.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  1. Work Schedule-Days and hours are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Benefits-Fringe benefits are provided for employees who work at least half-time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position. Stipends are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
  3. Association Membership-Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between Spokane Public Schools and the Union, a newly-elected employee must either become a member of the association, pay an equivalent representation fee, or based on bona fide religious objections, pay an equivalent amount to a nonreligious charity mutually agreed upon by the employee and the association.
  4. A fingerprint background check is required for all prospective employees prior to start date. A processing fee is payable by payroll deduction.
