Reports to: Director of Elementary Education

Summary of Position:
The elementary literacy District Program Facilitator supports curriculum, instruction, assessment, content integration and professional development for all elementary schools. This person is responsible for identifying and/or leading development of standards-aligned curriculum and assessments, designing and leading professional development which
focuses on strategies integrated content area instruction with literacy, supporting school leadership teams in improving instruction, and increasing the level of technology integration in elementary classrooms. This position will support the district's strategic plan and Superintendents key goals focused on literacy.

Qualifications:
Education
1. Bachelor's degree in elementary education or similar qualification
2. Advanced degree in education or educational leadership preferred
3. Coursework/training in curriculum design and delivery, formative assessment, and professional development
4. Valid Minnesota teaching license in K-6 or 1-6 elementary education.
5. Valid Minnesota teaching license as a K-12 Reading Specialist (preferred but not required)

Experience
1. A track record of leading students to make significant academic gains (more than a year's growth in a year's time)
2. At least five years of experience teaching a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds
3. Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills in working with adults
4. Experience with curriculum development, analysis and delivery using effective formative assessment strategies
5. Experience planning, facilitating, and evaluating high-quality professional development
6. Demonstrated leadership and a proven track record of content integration in literacy (science, social studies, arts, etc.)

2. Increase representation of MPS students' cultures in instructional materials and incorporate culturally relevant teaching strategies.
3. A demonstrated conviction that all students can and will achieve at high levels.
4. A working knowledge of Social Emotional Learning pedagogy and how it intersects with academics.
5. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS
staff; acts in a manner that promotes harmonious and effective workplace environment.
6. Knowledge of current educational research, instructional strategies, best practices and national programs in elementary education
7. Strong facilitation, leadership, and communication skills (both oral and written)
8. Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with teams
9. Ability to synthesize ideas, communicate clearly and succinctly, and design strategies for communicating effectively with internal and external audiences

Position Functions, Duties, Responsibilities:
1. Support implementation of the MPS core literacy instruction in grades PK-5, including instructional models which integrate literacy, media, science, social studies, mathematics, the arts, and physical education/health
2. Ensure alignment of elementary curriculum, instructional practices, and assessments with the Minnesota academic standards.
3. Lead teams of teachers and principals and MPS staff in developing, vetting, and revising integrated units of study and interim and formative assessments.
4. Lead process of creating/adopting instructional materials which support standards-based teaching and learning and integration of literacy and content.
5. Design and lead professional development on elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment for school leaders, teachers, and specialists.
6. Ensure that strategies for specific students, including English learner support, Special Education services, and advanced learner support are integrated seamlessly into elementary core curriculum and professional development.
7. Promote strategies that reduce/eliminate racial disparities in student outcomes
8. Identify and implement strategies for technological enhanced learning and integratio nikn in the elementary grades
9. Provide content-integrated support to elementary and K-8 schools through observations/debrief, site visits, and collaboration with instructional leadership teams and associate superintendents
10. Build the capacity of school leadership teams to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site
11. Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
12. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned. There may be times when required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position
