Speech and Language Pathologist

POSITION

The Speech and Language Pathologist is school-based and provides services which help reduce or eliminate speech and language deficits that interfere with a student's ability to achieve academic success. The Speech and Language Pathologist also works closely with the Principal, Child Study Team, Director of Special Education Compliance, and Senior Director of Special Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as a case manager as assigned and maintains appropriate case records.
  • Performs all duties required as a member of the child study team by administrative code, state and federal laws, and board policy.
  • Participates in the evaluation, classification and placement of students with communication needs.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers services for children with speech and language needs.
  • Develops and implements an individualized educational program (IEP) in collaboration with parents and teachers for pupils who are eligible for speech correction and identifies students in need of related services.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program.
  • Acts as educational consultant to classroom teachers, social workers, and administrators as needed.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development and other professional growth activities.
  • Assumes other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education Compliance or Senior Director of Special Education.

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom;
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player;
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education;
  • Effective problem-solving, human relations, and communication skills
  • Belief in and alignment with Uncommon's core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
  • Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships.
  • Experience working with and in urban schools is highly preferred
  • Valid New Jersey Speech-Language Specialist Endorsement
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge in the field of speech-language pathology
