Senior Associate Director of Operations Strategy (NYC or Newark)

Location(s): New York City or Newark, with additional travel required between all Uncommon regions.

TEAM & ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Associate Director of Operations Strategy (SADOS) will work with the Chief of Operations (CO) and the CO team to drive key initiatives related to operational alignment and excellence across Uncommon schools and the Uncommon Home Office. The SADOS will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Chief of Operations' strategic priorities are achieved and work closely with the CO, the CO team (Chief of Staff, etc.), school leaders, and Home Office team leaders to drive these initiatives forward. The SADOS reports to the Chief of Staff to the CO.

RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a strategic, organized team member who can effectively set vision for and execute on varied and high-leverage operations initiatives. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Independently driving key initiatives from start to finish: gathering input from key stakeholders and setting vision; proposing and executing on project plans/processes; gathering feedback ongoing and adjusting course as needed; leading effective debriefs and continuously improving on cyclical projects.
  • Identifying and codifying areas of alignment and overlap in work of Uncommon's regional school support teams; managing and implementing a plan to build efficiencies and maximize support of schools and students.
  • Drive the administration of the Operations Dashboard and other tools to track operational performance at all schools; collect, synthesize, and analyze data, and manage process for annual update of this tool.
  • Partnering with Senior Associate of Operations to plan and implement all cross-regional school operations initiatives.
  • Partnering with Uncommon Talent Team to drive Home Office People Development work in service of the CO vision, including team member onboarding, ongoing professional development opportunities, and evaluation processes.
  • Partnering with the entire CO team to steward additional projects and initiatives as priorities evolve.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred
  • Ability to create, communicate, and effectively execute on a vision and strategic plan.
  • High level of analytical thinking and problem solving; ability to analyze data and make sound recommendations.
  • Experience working with multiple high-level leaders and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; ability to demonstrate an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Extremely receptive to feedback and constantly striving for high standards of excellence.
  • Strong prioritization skills amidst many competing, high-leverage, high-impact priorities.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with varied audiences (e.g. Chief of Operations, Chief of Staff, regional and school leaders, Home Office team leaders).
  • Ability to "manage up" and work proactively with senior leaders.
  • Creative thinker.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-change organization, work autonomously, and be flexible in a dynamic role.

Minimum
  • 4-5 years of experience in school or non-profit operations.
  • Strong commitment to the organizational mission.
  • A bachelor's degree.
