Lake Forest Community High School is seeking a full-time Long-Term Substitute Generalist/College & Career Counselor from the approximate date of February 2, 2019 through May 31, 2019.

Description: The Generalist/College & Career Counselor advocates for all students and families enrolled at Lake Forest High School. The counselor provides academic, social-emotional and post high school counseling, working collaboratively with faculty, staff and administration in the overall best interests of every student.
  • Provide counseling to all students in an assigned alpha sequence throughout the four year high school experienceAdvise and counsel students regarding course selection, level changes, placement and mediation when appropriateCoordinate the college selection and application process with students and parents, including writing recommendations and processing applicationsMonitor student grades, transcripts and recordsConduct student seminars within the framework of the developmental modelPersonalize the educational process for each student as an advocate helping the system to make individual accommodations when appropriateRemain current on trends and practices of college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, post high school options, i.e. gap year, community colleges, military and employmentSupervise the activities of the College Resource Center to provide and maintain resource materials appropriate to career and college counselingPrepare and disseminate information regarding academic planning, college and scholarships to parents, students and staff via local media, newsletters and LFHS websiteRemain current with changes in college admissions and financial aidVisit colleges frequently attended by LFHS graduates to remain familiar with programs and to familiarize college admissions officials with LFHS curriculum and programsMaintain professional relationships with college admissions representativesParticipate as an active member of Core TeamParticipate in IEP meetings as appropriate and neededConduct parent meetings to mirror student seminars as warrantedCommunicate collaboratively and extensively with parents and staff via email, phone, individual meetings in the best interests of all studentsRemain current with standardized assessments, i.e. PLAN, PSAT, ACT, SAT1, SAT2 and AP testingParticipate in professional development opportunities/training (college visits, webinars, technology conferences, workshops, seminars, book discussions, KTI's, local, state and national association conferences)Other responsibilities related to counseling as assigned by the Director of Educational Services and approved by the Lake Forest Education Association

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in CounselingProfessional Educator License with a School Counselor EndorsementAble to effectively communicate orally and in writing and interact with a variety of audiencesAble to represent the school district at college and career articulation events, professional development programs, and related experiencesAble to provide college counseling services to a diverse population and to advocate for student needs and interestsKnowledge of best practices in student recruitment and current national college counseling and career trendsWell-developed public speaking skills adaptable for a variety of audiencesKnowledge of NCAA and NAIA Eligibility Center guidelines
