Job Summary
Assists the Director, Nutrition Education Programs with the District's nutrition education and the Pennsylvania Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (PA SNAP-Ed). Assists with oversight of the PA SNAP-Ed project which includes program design, implementation, consistency and effectiveness. Assists with monitoring and reviewing programmatic and financial aspects of the grant. Screens potential nutrition education programs offered to the District for accountability, accuracy of nutrition messages, appropriateness of program and how it is integrated into the curriculum. Monitors programmatic activities and financial expenditures, and ensures that all programmatic activities are in compliance with governmental mandates. Assists with managing and coordinating all actions of nutrition educators.
Essential Functions
  • Assists the Director with overseeing the activities of staff; assists with coordinating the planning and implementation of nutrition programs and initiatives; participates in the development of policies and procedures for all nutrition education programs.
  • Assists with coordination of grant procedures with the Office of Grant Development, the Office of Grant Compliance and Fiscal Services and the Office of Research and Evaluation.
  • Assists with oversight of all reporting for the PA SNAP-Ed program and other grant management agencies.
  • Assists with coordination of financial expenditures and oversight of program activities; manages all human resource activities including recruiting, hiring and personnel evaluation in collaboration with the Office of Talent.
  • Assists with coordination and plans for preparation of the proposal, submission and the review process.
  • Reviews local nutrition data; researches current instructional practices and models for effective nutrition instruction.
  • Attends and participates in annual and local meetings and/or conferences specific to the programs.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the nutrition field.
  • Maintains internal and external communications to support nutrition education activities.
  • Submits scholarly abstracts and presentations to national, state and local professional organizations for publication and presentation of program components and results.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding the Nutrition Education Programs.
  • Works collaboratively with all administrators; serves as a liaison between subcontractors and management entities.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition, nutrition education or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in nutrition education or a related field, one of which has been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and has involved implementing instructional strategies.
OR
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition, nutrition education or a related field.
  • Five years of full-time, paid, professional experience in nutrition education or a related field, two of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have involved implementing instructional strategies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • The principles, practices and methods of education in Nutrition Education.
  • The methods and procedures used in the planning and development of nutrition education training program for school-age children.
  • Food values and nutrition concepts.
  • A variety of pedagogical modalities.
  • Project management tools and spreadsheets and database applications.
  • The alignment of educational and training initiatives with the District's mission.
  • Supervisory methods and techniques.

Demonstrated ability to :
  • Apply research to practical situations.
  • Provide leadership in designing and developing professional development to meet needs.
  • Coordinate a variety of programs with the District's curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and control operating expenses.
  • Write, manage and maintain subcontracts and limited contract agreements.
  • Ensure grant objectives are accomplished in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the nutrition education program.
  • Use a personal computer.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Additional Job Information: This is a non-represented position. The salary grade for this role is 4027. Interviews may be conducted to determine how well a candidate meets the established criteria. Note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview. Additional factors including the ability to follow directions, punctuality and professional conduct will be considered in part of the evaluation process. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence.
