Primary Purpose

Assist in meeting goals and objectives of the individual education plan in the identified area of
transition for all children with disabilities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification
High School diploma or GED certificate

Minimum of 48 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education or passing score on the
ParaPro Assessment

Special Knowledge/Skills
• Ability to work with children with disabilities and parents
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of general office equipment
• Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work adjusted schedules
• Reliable Transportation

Experience
Experience working with children with disabilities and parents

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional and Program Management

1. Perform task analysis or job skills, knowledge, abilities, capacities, and responsibilities, which will be

required of the student to successfully perform in the job.
2. Learn the tasks and responsibilities of the job and then develops/assists the student in an atmosphere

that promotes confidence, skills, safety, and problem solving abilities.
3. Attend to the needs of students in personal hygiene, including toileting, grooming, mobility, and

eating, when necessary.
4. Reinforce and monitor behavioral management systems.
5. Supervise individuals and small group activities as directed by the teacher, transition to career

specialist, or work supervisor.
6. Support interactive, cooperative learning in work environments.
7. Serve as a positive role model in speech and language as well as models appropriate social skills.
8. Maintain accurate written logs of student progress.
9. Reinforce and encourages positive co-worker relationships.
10. Assist with collection and maintenance of records and relevant student data.
11. Assist teacher in planning, developing and implementing work related strategies for developing

students independent work skills.
12. Function as an advocate between site personnel and students to maintain open communication and

achieve individual education plan and employment objectives.
13. Assist in monitoring activities and behavior of students during program activities to ensure physical

and environmental safety.

14. Assist in assessing student vocational skills and behavior to assist in determining work readiness,
abilities, interest, and preferences.

15. Perform assigned duties for school year and assist in the classroom as needed during summer school
session.

16. Work directly with students in helping them to modify and control behavior with the objective focused
on employability training.

17. Assist in supervision of students.
18. Work adjusted schedules when applicable.
19. Perform other assigned duties as may be required by Transition to Career Specialist, work Supervisor,

Campus and District Administrators.

None

Instructional aids, audio-visual equipment, wheelchair lift, ramps, and copier.

Physical and Mental Job Requirements

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing;
stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to
bacteria and communicable diseases. Must be able to lift 45 pounds or more. Requires travel to
various sites throughout the district.

Terms of Employment

190 days; hourly rate to be determined by the Board of Trustees
