Summary: Instructs pupils in visual arts in media such as: drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, digital design, art history, art criticism, and sculpting, by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares lesson plans according to District Pacing Guides and State Standards.

Selects art supplies for student use in the study of the visual arts curriculum, adhering to the school's budget.

Demonstrate a variety of instructional methods.

Observes and evaluates students' work to assess progress toward mastery. Also implements instructional plans for individual student improvement.

Maintains an orderly classroom conducive to creativity and learning. This includes organizational procedures for students, which is inclusive of individual portfolios, art word walls, and art history notebooks.

Contacts parents concerning student academic progress, discipline concerns, and offers learning opportunities for parents.

Participates in District and City student art contests and is responsible for displaying student art in the school, Central Office, and community.

Makes accommodations, as required, for students with disabilities.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, students, or employees of IPS.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in word processing and student menu software.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid Indiana Teacher's License in Art.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
