Job Summary
Assists teaching personnel in providing meaningful learning experiences and creating an optimum learning environment for infants, toddlers, preschool, kindergarten and school age children in a Comprehensive Day Care Center. Confers with teaching personnel to meet the instructional, social and physical needs of children. Assists instructional personnel in preparation of materials and during various activities.
Examples of Work
  • Assists in planning formal and informal classroom learning activities; circulates through the classroom to assist students in the completion of assigned tasks under the direction of an instructional superior; serves as an instructional resource person to small groups of children by working with them to build confidence and responsiveness, encouraging verbalization of thoughts and emotions; reinforces previous instruction from teaching personnel; circulates through the school/facility as require by work assignment.
  • May read and/or tell stories to children; participates in musical and recreational activities with children in the classroom and on the playground; accompanies class on trips through neighborhood and other places of interest; as required, performs escort services within the center.
  • Assists in the preparation of exhibit tables, classroom displays and bulletin boards; prepares and distributes art and instructional materials; assists in cleaning up classroom area.
  • Attends in-service courses to augment instructional skills utilized and practiced on a daily basis; applies educational theory to practical classroom situations.
  • Prepares and maintains attendance and other required records on reports; helps maintain classroom discipline.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
