    Summary: The Aurora Public Schools Foundation (the Foundation) cultivates community investment to enrich student opportunity in Aurora Public Schools (APS) and strives to ensure that possibility becomes reality for every student. The Executive Director of the Foundation is the Chief Executive officer of the Foundation and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and managing overall operations to maximize the fundraising potential of the Foundation to support a variety of important programs that benefit APS students.

    The Executive Director of the APS Foundation, subject to the direction and supervision of the Board of Directors of the Foundation (the Board), will serve as the chief executive officer of the Foundation and will have control of its affairs and business and will supervise its officers, agents and employees.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Leadership
    • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, ongoing strategic fundraising plan to fulfill the Foundation’s goal of establishing and maintaining a College and Career Center in every APS high school and to ensure the overall stability of the APS Foundation’s operations and other programs
    • Pursue and cultivate relationships with key business and community members
    • Serve as leader and facilitator of meetings with APS Superintendent and key business leaders and stakeholders
    • Serve as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization's activities
    • Develop relationships and foster effective team work with all levels of APS staff, including Leadership Team, program owners and school teams
    • Represent the organization at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile
      Fundraising
    • Plan and implement strategies to accomplish the ongoing strategic fundraising plan (noted above)
    • Plan and carry out strategies to renew and increase gifts from current donors and attract new donors
    • Plan, develop and implement strategies to cultivate and manage relationships with foundations and corporate partners
    • Research, develop and submit grant proposals. Act as liaison with the APS Grants Department to coordinate potential funding opportunities
    • Create and implement the Foundation’s annual giving campaign
    • Act as liaison to the APS Innovation Fund
    • Collaborate with the APS Superintendent and APS Leadership Team to identify District funding priorities and understand program needs
    • Coordinate and oversee major events, including the annual Gala and any donor cultivation events
      Community Relations/Advocacy
    • Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization
    • Compile and disseminate regular, ongoing communication bulletins for the Board of Directors, APS Board of Education and APS Leadership Team
    • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, elected officials, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organization
    • Develop and produce communications subject to the approval of the board (brochures, marketing materials, press releases, website, social media, etc.) to educate the community about the mission of the Foundation as well as particular special events and services
    • Collaborate with the APS Partnership Coordinator for efficient engagement of the business community and internal resources
      Operational Planning and Management:
    • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the organization, including managing and reviewing one or more Foundation staff members.Provide input to District Staff on the hiring and supervision of the College and Career Center Coordinators per the MOU with the District.
    • Ensure that personnel, client, donor and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
    • Provide support to the Board by preparing meeting agendas and supporting materials
    • Maintain office and software systems to support all development projects and program operations to include the Foundation’s fundraising database
    • Prepare quality financial documents to include fundraising summaries, budgets, individual committee and special event activities
    • Work with the District and Foundation committees in managing all programs and services of the Foundation
    • Attend all Foundation board meetings and select committee meetings
      Financial Planning and Management:
    • Prepare and manage annual budgets with the finance committee for the Board’s approval
    • Prepare materials for and manage external auditors for the annual financial audit of the foundation
    • Understand financial statements and position of the organization to support sound spending and strategic proposals for the organization
    • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board
    • Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed by monitoring activities of the third party bookkeeper
      Perform other duties as assigned


    Education and Training:
    Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree with relevant specialization, such as non-profit management or business administration, preferred.

    Experience:
    Minimum five years management and fundraising experience, with proven experience in growing organizations, program development and delivery, and strong personnel management/staff development. Demonstrated and significant experience in leadership, strategic planning and management roles. Demonstrated experience in not for profit fundraising techniques and strong track record of fundraising success, especially in working with individual donors, foundations and corporations. Skilled in directing staff, partnering with volunteer boards, and engaging volunteers in a variety of roles. Experience working in education-related organizations ideal.

    Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other:
    Strong financial management skills and demonstrated ability to developand monitor organization and program budgets and business plans, as well as financial transparency and compliance. Ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Directors, staff and partnering organizations. Skilled in event planning and management. Strong organizational skills ability to assess needs, and multi-task. Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficient in Google and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. English language skills are required.

    Supervision/Technical Responsibility:
    Directly supervises one Foundation staff member and volunteers as needed. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; promoting and transferring employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, disciplining and terminating employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel; crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. No specific vision skills are required for this job.

    Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Mental Functions:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, coordinate and use interpersonal skills. The employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, copy, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, compile and negotiate.
