The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.
The STEM School Program Manager contributes to the guidance on the effective implementation of STEM programming as it relates to cross-disciplinary curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention for all students with a specific focus on the district's STEM schools.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the district-wide vision for STEM teaching and learning, with a focus on school-wide shifts in practice
• Support and lead the school-based STEM Specialists in their work as instructional coaches and champions of STEM practices in their schools
o Develop and model effective coaching relationships
o Provide guidance and resources to support Specialists in implementing meaningful coaching cycles
o Monitor and provide feedback to Specialists to support continuous improvement
• Design, coordinate, and facilitate ongoing and responsive professional learning for:
o School-based STEM Specialists
o STEM School Administrators
o STEM School Teachers
• Collaborate with STEM School Administrators to identify areas of growth, develop priorities, and implement strategies for school improvement
• Lead the revision and implementation of the STEM School Certification Process
• Lead the revision and implementation of the STEM School Application Process
Secondary Responsibilities:
• Collaborate regularly with the Citywide STEM Initiatives Manager to ensure alignment of priorities and initiatives
• Support the Citywide STEM Initiatives Manager in implementing:
o STEM Competitions and Challenges
o CPS STEM Summer Institute
o STEM curriculum supports and professional learning initiatives
• Perform other related duties as required
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the STEM School Program Manager must possess the following qualifications:
Type of Education Required :
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. Master's degree in STEM field, Education, or related field preferred.
Type of Experience and Number of Years :
• A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a STEM-related field; leadership experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
• Experience with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards
• Expertise in research-based instructional practices and strategies
• Strong leadership skills
• High standards for performance
• Understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
• Commitment to continuous improvement
• Proven track record of success and a clear focus on results
• Excellent facilitation, written, and oral communication skills
• Excellent technology skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Google Docs, etc.)
• Knowledge of critical issues in education
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders
Additional Requirement:
• This position requires a Chicago residency within six months of accepting the position.
