SALARY: Hourly rate will be bsed on the MI-3 schedule adopted by the board.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Substitute paraeducators may include the following: Working with students in various type classrooms such as Special Education, limited English speaking classes, etc. You may select areas you are interested in when completing the Substitute Services Supplemental Data Sheet. This position provides no benefits. This is an on-call position with no guarantee of hours. Please note that the majority of our Paraeducator positions are working with students in specially designed classrooms and require the willingness and ability to lift 50 pounds (testing required), and personal care (feeding, toileting/diapering), running after students, de-escalating, and kneeling on the floor with students. This is a physically strenuous position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Work with students under the guidance of the classroom teacher in a confidential manner.
  2. Assist teachers with daily classroom activities and student goals. Lift, feed, toilet, and/or diaper students.
  3. Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Demonstrated ability to work and interact positively and effectively with students, including students with special needs. Demonstrated ability to take direction from teachers and administrators and interact with others in a positive manner.
  2. High school diploma AND 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits from an accredited college, AA or BA degree, OR pass an academically rigorous assessment.
  3. Demonstrated interest in working with students, including those with special needs.
  4. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  5. Ability to respond appropriately to aggressive and physical behaviors.
  6. Willing and physically capable of kneeling, bending, and working or sitting on the floor with students; running after students, based on student needs.
  7. Provide personal care assistance to students including, but not limited to, feeding, tube feeding (with training), toileting and diapering, based on student needs.
  8. Proficiency in basic communication skills and ability to see, hear, and listen to the teacher and students throughout the classroom or school settings in order to supervise and maintain a safe environment for a diverse group of students.
  9. Demonstrated flexibility and reliability. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  10. Must have reliable transportation or able to arrive at job in a timely manner.
  11. Must be available during school day hours - minimum four hours per day.
  12. Ability to substitute at all schools and sites within Spokane Public School District.
  13. Experience with computers required.
