Salary is based on the Manager Technical Salary Schedule - Range: $49,390 - $68,188. Actual salary will be based on skills, competencies, and like experience.


Job Summary:
  • Find and produce stories that communicate the district's mission, accomplishments and goals to a variety of audiences. Utilize different mediums to tell stories and disseminate messages through diverse, appropriate platforms based on the message and audience.

Job Task:
Video Production (20%)
  • Plan, film, edit and produce video stories to communicate the successes of the district.
  • Work with principals, teachers, parents, students, stakeholders, colleagues and community partners to create compelling, collaborative stories.
  • Use Adobe Premiere to edit and produce videos.
  • Share video stories through available and effective communication channels online and/or at special events.
  • Record/live stream district events as necessary and distribute on proper channels
  • Collaborate with Southern Colorado Educational Television Consortium and ensure District Two presence on local cable.

Photography (20%)
  • Create photo stories to highlight district successes and events.
  • Photograph students and teachers for marketing and promotional materials, website updates, print publications, and media submissions.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite to organize, manage and edit photos prior to publishing.
  • Photograph important events in the district and in the community.
  • Collaborate with graphic designer regarding print and online materials.
  • Ensure students photographed are media-safe and that all photos (including submitted by others) are cleared prior to publishing online or in print.


Social Media Management (20%)
  • Create and manage content for 26+ district social media channels.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, principals, teachers, community partners and more to create and share information, posts and stories.
  • Manage social media editors from schools and administration.
  • Train and assist new social media editors.
  • Track social media when requested by Public Information Officer (PIO), security department, or otherwise.
  • Keep social media channels updated and accurate during events such as inclement weather, district emergencies, or other.


Writing/Editing (15%)
  • Create, write and edit stories for website, district promotional materials, print publications, newsletters, social media, and news media.
  • Write press releases and media submissions for local and national news organizations.
  • Edit copy of all district written communication before it leaves department.
  • Write letters to go home with parents during or after district events, incidents, lockouts or otherwise.


Media Relations (10%)
  • Communicate with reporters, photographers, editors, etc. about district events, successes, stories and more.
  • Create written and photo stories to submit to local or national news organizations and blogs.
  • Coordinate with reporters and photographers to produce news stories.
  • Track media coverage and reporting during and after district events.


Assist Public Information Officer (10%)
  • Assist with media relations, media tracking, social media, story production, event planning, survey results, district event coverage, and more.
  • Attend events to document through photographs or note-taking during community meetings, focus and feedback groups, panels, and more.
  • Create advertisements and flyers as needed for PIO if graphic designer is out of the district.
  • Develop and maintain advertising and community partner contacts and serve as District Two point of contact as needed.
  • Assists PIO as needed during crisis or other district events.


Event Planning (2%)
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan district events.
  • Coordinate with venues regarding AV setup, run through and presentation.
  • Create content specific to events like slideshows, videos, logo screens and more.


Communications Planning and Strategizing (2%)
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding communications, advertising, strategy, budget, promotional materials, event coverage, fundraising and more.


Ongoing (1%)
  • Other communications related duties


Required:
  • Bachelor of Journalism, Art (Photography or Film), Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Three to five years of related experience in visual storytelling, professional communications, newspaper, online or magazine journalism, video production, marketing, public relations or related field.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and audiences.
  • Video production, video editing, photography, photo-editing and social media management
  • Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Desired:
  • Professional writing experience and knowledge of AP Style
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or educational environment
  • Self-starter who can work independently and collaborate with team
