The position is for 5.75 hours/day.

• Assist the teacher in providing instructional activities and reinforcement for special education students.

• Record keeping related to handicapped child's individual program at the direction of the teacher.

• Prepare materials at the direction of the teacher.

• Supervise students during structured and unstructured times at the direction of the teacher.

• Assist in the general supervision of students on the campus and off campus.

• Assist in the supervision of student on bus to and from school, when needed, and on field trips.

• At the direction of the teacher, work on academic, communication, social, and self-help skills.

• Accompany students to regular education classes and provide needed assistance.

• Implement behavior management strategies for a student or a group of students.

• Assist in the behavior management of students

Be eligible or possess a DPI Special Education license.

• Interest and/or experience working with students identified with a variety of special education needs including autism, emotional/behavioral disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and health needs.

• A positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to meet the needs of all children.

• Must be eligible for or possess a teaching license or Handicapped Aides license #070, which requires three years of experience with children, or three years of college coursework or a combination equivalent to three years.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to students and families, carrying out plans for students and supervising individual students in both structured and unstructured settings, including non-violent crisis intervention strategies.

• Physical assistance with students/young adults including lifting as needed. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

• Assist with personal care procedures as needed for students (ex. dressing, toileting, feeding, etc.)

• When needed, designated health care procedures such as tube feeding, colostomy care, Clean-Intermittent- Catheterization (CIC) suctioning, or administration of medication following instructional/training by the school district nurse.

• Desire and ability to work with a wide variety of learners

• Able to work as part of a team

• Able to maintain confidentiality

• Able to engage learners and build rapport with learners

• Must also obtain CPR and first aide certification within the first few months of employment.
