  • JOB TITLE: Communications Manager
    LOCATION: Admin/Lower Campus
    WORK YEAR: Days scheduled based upon Principal or Superintendent approval
    SCHEDULE: As needed
    WORK STATUS: Classified Hourly, Non-Exempt and At-Will
    REPORTS TO: Superintendent

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Communications Manager will support Sheridan School District No. 2 and each school site with public relations efforts as needed including public relations, strategic communications, marketing and awareness activities to enhance community understanding of Sheridan School District No. 2's mission, goals, objectives, services and activities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Create strategic publications, website communications, social media, public engagement, governmental relations and community outreach. Advise and support the superintendent, board of education and district staff regarding internal and external communications.
    • Attend meetings of the Board of Education, district-wide meetings/events, school based meetings/events and community meetings/events to gather and disseminate information about the district.
    • Support communications from Superintendent to underscore and promote key district messages.
    • Attend and promote school events as needed.
    • Write bi-monthly district newsletter.
    • Develop and produce occasional videos for district needs.
    • Coordinate media relations.
    • Coordinate and assist as needed with crisis communications-school lockdowns, school-related incidents, accidents, etc.
    • Manage district Twitter feed and Facebook page

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    Required
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field.
    • Minimum five years' experience in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or related field with emphasis on education.
    • Operating knowledge of cameras, personal computer, printer, copier, fax, phone system, e-mail.
    • Valid Colorado driver's license

    Preferred
    • Accreditation in public relations by national professional association preferred.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 10-20 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. Must have the ability to speak, hear, see, travel, communicate, analyze and interpret information. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear online background check and FBI Fingerprint check through Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

    BENEFITS:
    This position does not qualify for health benefits. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by statute to contribute 8% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District also contributes a 20.15% in addition to the employee contribution.
