The Essex Westford Educational Community Unified Union School District is seeking skilled individuals to work with students with significant emotional challenges and mental health issues and/or to provide discrete trial instruction and specialized supports to a student(s) at our Founders Memorial School. Position is available beginning immediately. Anticipated placement is at our Hiawatha Elementary School (PK-3).
Position is approximately 6.5 hours/day during the school year. Additional hours may also be needed for attendance at special meetings or training before or after school. Excellent benefits package available include family medical and dental insurance, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, and paid sick and personal leave. Pay starts at $19.15/hour.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, mental health, education or other appropriate discipline, plus 1 to 2 years of directly related experience or training working with children on the autism spectrum and/or with severe emotional disturbances.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge of approaches for teaching students who have autism spectrum disorders.
- Able to implement behavioral modification plans, provide crisis intervention, manage aggressive behaviors, and work on a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to use adaptive technology with the student such as Dynomite.
- Must be well versed in relevant and eclectic teaching technologies including project T.E.A.C.C.H., Discrete Trials, etc.
- Good working knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and severe emotional disturbances including teaching methods, theories and laws.
- Good understanding of standard classroom operations and teaching methods.
- Willingness and ability to be trained in restrictive behavioral intervention.
- Valid Vermont driver's license and a good driving record required. A reliable vehicle with a valid Vermont registration and inspection sticker, and willingness and ability to transport students using private vehicle desirable, but not required. (Mileage shall be reimbursed at the IRS approved rate.)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as task analysis and behavioral data.
- Ability to attend an evening course on direct instruction and after school training sessions.
