Location: Office of Opportunity & Achievement Gap (OAG)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
OAG seeks an expert Senior Specialist for Targeted Populations to work with the Excellence for All (EFA) School Support Team and school teacher teams. The Senior Specialist will assess curricula and instruction to ensure that they address the academic needs of students from historically marginalized populations. The ideal candidate for this position should have expertise in the fields of language acquisition, as well as, culturally and linguistically sustaining practices as defined by BPS. The Office of Achievement Gap possesses an unmovable conviction that our most marginalized students in Boston Public Schools can and will achieve.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with district partners and constituents on the design and planning of curriculum and instruction for targeted populations, including English Language Learners (ELL), students with disabilities, etc.
  • Support Senior Coordinators in designing other structured supports for targeted populations.
  • Provide trainings and workshops for teachers, with a particular focus on language acquisition.
  • Conduct walkthroughs, attend coordination meetings and support the EFA Director as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:
  • Masters degree in Education or relevant field
  • Expertise in Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Practices
  • Expertise in language acquisition
  • Expertise in effective instructional practices
  • Experience providing effective professional development to teachers
  • Working knowledge/understanding of the effects that bias, racism, and discriminatory practices have on students' schooling experiences.
  • Proven ability to successfully problem-solve and think critically
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:
  • Doctorate degree in related field
  • Experience in research on marginalized populations.
  • Bilingual; Spanish
Terms: Managerial, Tier C. This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.
