POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Director - Career and Technical Education is responsible for monitoring and implementing strategies, programs, and services that support students' college and career readiness in relation to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Salary Range: $114,179 - $186,501

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Oversees the creation, implementation and effectiveness of CTE programs and career academies and ensures that students complete program sequences and programming meets local, state, and national needs;
  • Develops plans to monitor quality control of CTE programs and career academies through quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods;
  • Collaborates with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Area Offices to support improvement in the Technical Skills Assessment (TSA) certifications earned by high school students enrolled in CTE programs of study;
  • Establishes new, innovative, partnerships with non-profit organizations, colleges, and universities to strengthen CTE programs;
  • Leads the development and implementation of high impact strategies that will aid PGCPS in achieving its student achievement goals in the TSA for CTE programs;
  • Builds a high-performing team whose work spans a broad range of CTE programs and services to support schools;
  • Collaborates with central office departments and schools to enhance, implement, support, and assess a wide range of strategic initiatives designed to improve student achievement for students enrolled in CTE programs of study;
  • Develops and implements data gathering and analysis processes for internal and external reporting to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of CTE programs/projects in meeting established goals and objectives;
  • Utilizes operational and project management methods to effectively lead, build and manage department and district-level cross-functional teams that focus on the work pertaining to Career and Technical Education;
  • Develops and implements an annual budget, including general fund, Perkins grant, and capital funds, to support District goals; identifies and pursues opportunities to garner external resources, and optimizes the allocation of staff and resources;
  • Provides strategic planning, policy development, and problem resolution support to the Chief Academic Officer;
  • Provides service to stakeholders by anticipating and responding to inquiries or concerns, answering questions, providing information, making referrals, and assuring appropriate follow-through and/or resolution. Analyze and manage sensitive issues that arise;
  • Identifies gaps in PGCPS policies and administrative procedures related to CTE programs; revises existing policies and administrative procedures if needed, and develops new policies and administrative procedures to help implement PGCPS' initiatives;
  • Prepares and provides significant input to reports, briefings, proposals, presentations, policies, correspondence, procedures, responses, and other required documentation on strategic issues, as appropriate; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Public School Laws of Maryland, the bylaws of the State Board of Education, and the policies of the Board of Education of Prince George's County;
  • Thorough understanding of curriculum and instruction and other pupil related services;
  • Knowledge and experience within the field of Career and Technical Education;
  • Experience with grant writing and knowledge of grants and funding available in the CTE field;
  • Experience in curriculum writing;
  • Ability to use computer technology in an administrative and educational setting;
  • Excellent organizational ability and good human relation skills;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills as well as problem solving and consensus building expertise;
  • Leadership (i.e., Central Office Supervisor, High School Principal, High School Assistant Principal, High School Department Chair) within the CTE field is strongly desired

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) from an accredited college or university with course work in educational administration, education, and/or curriculum development is required.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I or Administrator II or Principal/Supervisory Certification.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Oversees and provides guidance to area personnel.
