Job Summary
Plans, develops, directs and administers comprehensive instructional support for all Opportunity schools in a teaching capacity, aligned to the core curriculum and in accordance with the vision, mission and initiatives of the Opportunity Network Office and in alignment with the Chief Academic Supports Office. Designs strategic instructional supports that provide the necessary pedagogy in order to establish high quality teaching and learning in order to raise student achievement. Supervises staff to work directly in schools, in addition to serving as a liaison between the Assistant Superintendent, schools and central offices. Oversees grant initiatives directly related to improving instructional practices and builds capacity with community partners. Assists the Assistant Superintendent in the planning and development of educational programs to promote academic success. Coordinates with the Opportunity Network Assistant Superintendent in ensuring that the educational needs of all students are met, including those with diverse learning needs, in such areas as, but not limited to, ELL, special education, gifted instruction, and differentiated instruction. Provides leadership in professional development to ensure the effective implementation of the core curriculum in all subject areas. Conducts data analysis and monitoring of network initiatives to ensure fidelity of implementation.
Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership in the areas of school-based support, staff development and the effective utilization of instructional materials aligned to the core curriculum.
  • Assist with instructional walk-throughs in order to analyze teaching practices, support schools and teachers to attain high quality instructional practices, and provide professional development support based on a teacher and school's area of need.
  • Ensures that principals, teachers and central staff are equipped with the tools and training to implement, support and monitor effective instruction.
  • Develops strategies that connect curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development for effective data driven interventions to improve teaching and learning.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Educational Technology, the Office of Research and Evaluation and the District Performance Office to support teachers and schools to obtain on-going periodic assessments results on their students and how to best use the results to deliver differentiated instruction.
  • Trains network staff and school based staff and other central offices to deliver professional development sessions to principals and school-based teacher leaders.
  • Reviews and assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of the Opportunity Network Office professional development activities.
  • Coordinates and ensures the successful integration of strategies.
  • Implements the Opportunity Network instructional support model to ensure success of implementing the core curriculum in all schools in order for all students to learn at high levels.
  • Organizes the analysis of multiple data sources to determine instructional support plans for schools.
  • Works with the Opportunity Network Assistant Superintendent to coordinate instructional support provided to schools.
  • Supports the Opportunity Network Assistant Superintendent in achieving a cohesive and collaborative approach in the implementation of educational programs.
  • Supports the implementation of educational initiatives related to transformed educational systems and educational reform.
  • Facilitates and fosters communication and cooperation in the attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Addresses problems and concerns regarding instruction and coordinates resources as needed to provide timely and effective responses.
  • Responds to constituents' concerns and serves as the Opportunity Network Assistant Superintendent's liaison to schools, central offices and community groups on matters related to instruction.
  • Supports the Opportunity Network Assistant Superintendent in developing and sustaining partnerships.
  • Develops and implements a timetable to achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Develops objectives and methods of operation for a sustained delivery system; confers, consults and coordinates with other District personnel and a variety of agencies, committees and councils in the provision of instructional support.
  • Implements the planned activities for teachers as outlined in the Opportunity Network Education Plan.
  • Determines, defines and outlines procedures for achieving the goals and objectives of the office; establishes areas of responsibility for subordinate staff and monitors their specific elements of accountability.
  • Directs the activities of staff engaged in the scheduling, coordination and provision of staff development workshops; determines appropriate learning objectives, revising and/or adapting instructional methodology; ensures that staff development workshops are effective in meeting assessed needs and achieving departmental and District objectives.
  • Reviews and evaluates proposals submitted by external organizations to conduct workshops and seminars and makes decisions as to the propriety and effectiveness of their contractual services.
  • Plans, allocates and monitors budgets for use in the project; trains staff from schools throughout the District; develops and monitors timeline for completion of projects.
  • Maintains an effective communication system and seeks assistance from central office staff to improve performance; maintains a good relationship with students, staff, parents and community members.
Other Functions
  • Attends community and professional meetings as appropriate to support curriculum development.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ten years of full-time, paid, professional experience in an urban educational setting, at least three of which have been in a leader capacity (e.g. mentor teacher, AA, or AP.
OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent with a Master's degree as an educational minimum.

Additional Job Information: This is a non-represented position. The salary grade for this role is 4030.

Interviews may be conducted to determine how well a candidate meets the established criteria. Note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview. Additional factors including the ability to follow directions, punctuality and professional conduct will be considered in part of the evaluation process. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence.
