Under the supervision of the Audit Supervisor, the Auditor I is responsible for conducting audits of city and school taxes such as mercantile, net profit, earned income, etc. Other audits of public records may be required from time to time.

Reports To: Treasurer

Salary:
Technical/Clerical Salary Schedule - Level 9, Step 1 (Starting at $3, 011/month)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in Accounting is preferred.

- Two years of professional accounting training and/or auditing or one year as an Auditor Trainee or an equivalent combination of experience and training is required.

Documenting/Recording Information - Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form

Performing Administrative Activities - Performing day to day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.

Technical Proficiency - The ability and willingness to exhibit competency in the technical areas needed to do a specific job.

Organizational Ability - The ability and willingness to organize and utilize resources to achieve results.

Workflow Management - The ability and willingness to perform work within defined specifications and timelines and to manage conflicting priorities.

Stakeholder Relations - The ability and willingness to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Residency Requirements: City of Pittsburgh Residency Required

Essential Job Functions:
1. Examines and verifies in taxpayers or District offices a variety of fiscal records such as journals, ledgers, invoices, cash receipts, payrolls, tax records and balance sheet statements.

2. Applies pertinent laws and law department opinions and determines correct tax assessment.

3. Prepared reports of each audit and compiles special reports in cases involving overpayment or underpayment of taxes.

4. Prepares special reports regarding unauthorized expenditures concerning internal operations.

5. On a continuing basis, studies and applies relevant laws, resolutions, ordinances, administrative rulings and judicial decisions.

6. Testifies at Treasurer's Hearings and in Court regarding contested tax cases.

Additional Job Information:
Physical Demands: This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Employee will be required to operate computer system for data entry, and have the ability to complete necessary paperwork. This position requires minimum physical effort and not subjected to Occupational Health and Safety risks.

Work Environment:
1. Indoors in busy office, working in close proximity to co-worker
2. Frequently required to work at fast pace
3. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
