  • TYPE OF APPOINTMENT ISSUED: This position is included in the Educational Officers' Bargaining Unit and will be filled as a limited term probationary vice appointment.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST II
    Training: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration with specialization in management information systems.
    Education Desirable: Bachelor's degree in education with specialization in educational technology or information technology; or a bachelor's degree in information and/or computer science or related fields.
    Experience: Four (4) years of responsible professional work experience in management information systems, systems analysis and/or computer programming of which one (1) year shall have been in an education program, agency or system.
    Experience Desirable: Six (6) years of responsible professional experience in information technology and management, two (2) of which were in an educational program, agency, or system.
    Combined Education and Experience: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable, as determined by the Department. Substitutions can be considered for the requirement of experience in an education program, agency or system.
    Knowledge of: Business statistics; computer-based information systems; programming application systems; computer and data systems; information systems in organizations; information systems analysis and design; laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures pertinent to the area or areas of assignment.
    Knowledge Desirable: Expert knowledge of the current practices, principles, and theories of IT, project management, supervision, and department organization and functions, along with sufficient knowledge of educational programs to assist school officials in planning and implementing systemic solutions for difficult problems. Knowledge of current IT solutions available to the academic environment.
    Skills/Abilities: Perform full range of information technology services in area(s) of assignment; communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing; operate computer and other business machines.
  • A WRITTEN EXAMINATION/ASSIGNMENT MAY BE ADMINISTERED TO HELP DETERMINE POSSESSION OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES PORTIONS OF THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.
  • Duties and Responsibilities : Under the general supervision of the Information Technology Specialist III of the IT Manager Section, the Information Technology Specialist II:
    1. Provides technical support and troubleshooting for legacy phone systems, Cisco router and switch infrastructure, Cisco wireless LAN infrastructure, Cisco Unified Communications (phones, program bells and paging); collaborates with OITS Enterprise Infrastructure Services Branch (EISB) on infrastucture-related projects and initiatives (maintenance and upgrades of network infrastructure resources, maintenance and management of school network monitoring, new construction projects, cabling projects, coordination of firewall issues and requests, and project management of network infrastructure integration projects).
    2. Serves as liaison between Office of Information Technology Services (OITS), Complex Area Superintendent, and complex area schools to communicate OITS technology initiatives and projects occuring at the state and complex area level, network maintenance, and upgrades. Provides consultation and technical information for school and facilities construction projects; provides consultation and technology guidance to schools on optimizing and leveraging network resources, school technology plans, technology procurement, computer hardware standards and refresh cycles, and technology solutions for school technology coordinators and technicians.
    3. Attend and participate in OITS IT Manager meetings to receive OITS updates, information and training, and to report on complex areas as needed; participate in OITS IT Manager Professional Learning Community; attend and participate in professional development opportunities (trainings, workshops, summits, etc.) to stay current on IT news and solutions. Establish, facilitate, and manage a Professional Learning Community of school technology coordinators and technicians.
    4. Supports EISB with special programs such as eRate, or provides specialized technical expertise to other members of the team in a selected area of expertise (i.e., servers, applications, etc.).
    5. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • SALARY RANGE: EOSR-7, $95,483 to $135,163. Department of Education certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All others will be placed on the first step of $95,483.
  • WORK YEAR AND BENEFITS: This appointment will be on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave provided according to applicable regulations.
