POSITION: Speech Language Pathologist

LOCATION: To be determined

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed Speech-Hearing Pathologist in the State of Delaware
  • Completion of Master's degree program in the area of Speech and Language Pathology
  • ASHA (American Speech/Language & Hearing Association) certified
  • Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per work day.Minimum lifting requirements- 50 pounds (with assistance).
  • Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students.

Responsibilities:
  • Screens students for possible speech and/or language problems.
  • Evaluates speech/language of students in the schools.
  • Schedules individual and small group therapy sessions for those students identified as having speech and/or language problems.
  • Does hearing threshold tests upon the request of the school nurse to help identify children with hearing problems and recommends referral to the proper agencies or physicians for further testing if necessary.
  • Interprets students' special speech and language needs to principals, teachers and parents when necessary, and when possible, provides special materials to teachers to help meet speech problems in the classroom.
  • Refers students to and confers with community resources as required.
  • Cooperates with the school personnel to give each student the maximum help possible.
  • Provides information to parents and community through P.T.A. meetings, workshops, etc.
  • Acts in ways which are likely to promote students' feelings of self-worth.
  • Encourages students to behave in accordance with classroom and school rules.
  • Prepares reports and information as prescribed by Christina School District, the Department of Education and the Cost Recovery office.
  • Keeps accurate records and documentation on student programs.
  • Maintains a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel.
  • Meets responsibilities as per contractual agreement and state law (Title 14, Section 12).
  • Pursues opportunities for professional growth.
  • The appointee will be responsible to the School Administrator and the Director of Special Services, and have the responsibility for developing and coordinating speech and language therapy functions as required.
