SUMMARY

The District Media Specialist Coach is responsible for development and coordination of the school library/Media program and supporting all schools in maintaining their library/Media collection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology
  • Leads school based media specialist in the use of instructional technology
  • Provides instructional technology professional development school based media specialists
  • Provides resource information relating to new techniques and practices that relate to the use of technology and that enable students to use technology as a learning tool
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of staff development and school library media staff
  • Supports the selection and purchase of core collections for new library media centers
  • Provides leadership in 21 st century skills
  • Supports media assistants in understanding library services and implementation of services
  • Provides professional development for media assistants
  • Plans and conducts on-going in-service in the set-up and use of audiovisual equipment
  • Assures standardization and equity of resources across programs and buildings
  • Assists principals in the selection of school library media personnel
  • Assists principals in the supervision of school library media personnel responsibilities
  • Provides individual assistance to school library staffs to discuss library problems, give suggestions for improvement of library services, and share new ideas in the media services field
  • Serves as a resource person to teachers and staff in appropriate use of the library, reference, and instructional materials
  • Provides training and coordinates the completion of annual media and technology reports
  • Advises school personnel on national, state, regional, and district standards, policies, procedures, materials selection, and copyright issues
  • Facilitates the development of specifications for automated library systems including ordering, cataloging, circulation, and inventory control for library materials
  • Assists with the planning, preparation and execution of reading events
  • Works in partnership with the Public Library on a variety of collaborative projects
  • Coordinates major library-sponsored, state, and local reading events for the school system
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred in Instructional Technology, Library Science, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching and library media services experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Must qualify for Library Certification or have a Library Certificate
  • Must have strong understanding of emerging technologies and integrating technology into the curriculum


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Indiana Library Media Services License or Valid license from another state

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information

Ability to receive instructions, assignments or directions from superiors

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, position statement, meeting summaries, etc., using prescribed formats. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Thorough knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, punctuation and formats required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and all other statistical measurement tools.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to utilize courtesy and tact when communicating with others to deliver clear and concise messages.
