Job Description / Essential Elements:
Heating/Ventilating/Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineer
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems, heating, ventilating, air conditioning equipment. Capable of construction and maintenance work as well as the repair of building and the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Install, service, inspect for safe operation and repair varied heating, air conditioning, and energy management systems (e.g. boilers, heaters, heat exchangers, air handlers, pumps, ventilating equipment, kitchen equipment and pneumatic air compressors. May lead Maintenance I & II in the absence of supervisor. Assist with processing purchase orders. Assist with shipping and receiving activities; deliver supplies, furniture and other items to school site, unload trucks utilizing a forklift
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (GED
Experience:
Minimum four (4) years experience as a heating, ventilating and air conditioning
Equipment repair person or forty-eight (48) months experience as a heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment repair person acquired through an
Accredited apprenticeship program, skill training program or general heating, ventilating, air conditioning experience. Also some experience in building maintenance and/or trade work.
Other:
Must possess a valid California Driver's License; and Valid EPA Refrigerant
Certificate (EPA Title 6, Section 608
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of
Heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment safety practices and procedures;
Materials, tools and methods used in heating, ventilating and air conditionirepair work;
State and County heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment codes;
Heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment troubleshoots techniques; and Working methods, procedures, tools and materials used in the building trades.
Ability to:
Use electrical testing equipment;
Repair electronic control devices in heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment;
Work according to plans and specifications;
Make time, labor and materials estimates;
Work from blueprints in installing or remodeling;
Perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair activities;
Work independently and follow directions; Maintain cooperative relationships with those in contact during the course of work and understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English. Organize and lead maintenance personnel.
SUPERVISIONWorks under the supervision of Administrative Personnel.
