Job Title: High School Moderate Special Needs Teacher, 2018-2019

Description: As a collaborative member of the High School Special Education team, the High School Moderate Special Education Teacher will be responsible for teaching and evaluating students, developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and implementing programming for high school students with moderate and intensive needs in an inclusive setting. The High School Moderate Special Education Teacher must have working knowledge of how to deliver an effective and differentiated curriculum that addresses core content, social-emotional learning, and general college/career readiness. The successful candidate must demonstrate skills with behavior management techniques and interventions. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage a fluid caseload, including consistent parent communication, paraprofessional supervision, and other professional duties dictated by the students' IEPs.

Job Requirements:
  • Mass DESE certified in Moderate Special Needs 9-12
  • Master's degree preferred
  • SEI Endorsement
  • Previous high school teaching experience preferred
  • Proficiency in working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Aptitude for leading, motivating, and understanding how to work with individuals with various physical, psychological, cognitive, and sensory abilities
  • Possession of high energy and patience levels
  • Ability to effectively communication orally and in writing.
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required


High School Moderate Special Needs Teacher Responsibilities:
  • Offer activities and instruction that will allow all levels of students to successfully engage in instruction and learning based upon the Common Core standards
  • Plan and deliver developmentally-appropriate curriculum, interventions, and solutions
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence
  • Manage student behavior and provide a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Formally and informally evaluate students' abilities in basic academics for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of learning disorders and monitoring student progress
  • Understand the concept of PBIS and demonstrate the ability to provide positive student management skills
  • Collect and analyze data to drive instruction, develop IEPs, and improve student performance.
  • Work collaboratively in environments including with a multidisciplinary team to support skills development across all settings
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, planning and delivering curriculum, collecting and analyzing academic and social data and creating Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students
  • Support general education teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of classroom goals and Individual Education IEP accommodations, modifications, and goals
  • Participate in IEP meetings, conferences, parent meetings, in-service training, and other related activities
  • Educate parents and other team members regarding the provision of services
