BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledgeable of the total extracurricular program offered at the high school level in Prince William County Public Schools

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Endorsed as a secondary teacher. Postgraduate Virginia Teaching License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

To organize, implement, manage and supervise the extracurricular program at the high school level; to manage and supervise the use of the school building by student, parent and community groups, scheduling all athletic and group activities; to procure and maintain equipment and provide supervision and evaluate all coaches and extracurricular activities sponsors.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

The basic responsibility is to coordinate and supervise the extracurricular program. The assignments are administered in accordance with all laws, regulations and policies as set forth by federal and state law, the State Department of Education and the Prince William County School Board. Director of Student Activities This includes serving as liaison with the Park Authority for use of buildings and grounds, coordination of building use by student, parent and community groups, scheduling athletic and club activities, procurement and maintenance of equipment, maintaining conditions of fields and grounds, supervision and evaluation of coaches and sponsors, fiscal management for extracurricular programs and coordination of supervision.
•Work collaboratively with all stake holders in providing a world-class education.
•Maintain calendar of all student activities and building use.
•Manage building use, prepare calendar, execute building use contract to include representation of appropriate fees, and assure supervision and cleanliness of building.
•Prepare and publicize supervisory schedule for student activities and building use.
•Collect information on student activities for use in the school newsletter to parents.
•Represent the school in matters of student activities with the media.
•Prepare and maintain a handbook for coaches/sponsors.
•Prepare a handbook for student athletics.
•Review and forward all club guidelines and bylaws to the principal for approve and maintain the approved guideline on file.
•Prepare the budget for all interscholastic sports and extra curricular activities.
•Receive, review, approve and forward purchase orders using student activities funds to the bookkeeper for processing. Insures that all bookkeeping and finance guidelines are adhered to strictly.
•Compile fund-raising activities into an approved format to be forwarded to the principal for approval.
•Monitor approved fund-raising activities.
•Maintain on file a list of approved fund-raising activities as well as supporting club budgets.
•Procure all sports equipment.
•Supervise the maintenance of all activity and athletic equipment.
•Represent the school as athletic director for applicable VHSL District, Regional, and State activities.
•Complete the evaluation of coaches and activity sponsors using the approved instrument.
•Coordinate all activity parent booster clubs.
•Work with community and businesses to meet the needs of the school and community.
•The Director of Student Activities at each high school is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the eligibility list for student athletes and assuring that sponsors/coaches adhere to VHSL and Prince William County Public School regulations regarding eligibility.
•Participate in appropriate administrative team activities and meetings.
•Assist and advise the principal in matters relating to the supervision of student athletes during and after school.
•Provide supervision for all home VHSL athletic contests and assign appropriate supervision for other activities.
•Promote safety/risk management.
•Work closely with the Transportation Department to coordinate all athletic; and extracurricular field trips.
•Monitor proper procedures for the selling of tickets and the collection of monies.
•Monitor the playing conditions of all fields, courts and grounds.
•Assist the principal in recommendations of personnel for hiring as coaches and/or sponsors.
•Counsels students, parents, coaches, sponsors and school related personnel on NCAA Standards and academic requirements.
•Assess extracurricular school needs. Organize, implement, manage, supervise and evaluate the extracurricular program.
•Complete other duties as assigned.
DIMENSIONS
Budget Responsibilities: Responsible for the supervision of the fiscal management for all extracurricular programs under the direction of the principal. Employees Supervised: All athletic coaches and extracurricular sponsors. Number of Students: The entire student population participating in extracurricular activities.

SALARY:
Grade 17: $80,218 - $145,015 per year
