PRESCHOOL MODERATE SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER, SALEM EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER, 2018-2019

Job Title: Preschool Moderate Special Needs Teacher, 2018-2019

Description: As a collaborative member of the Early Childhood Center's (ECC) Special Education team, the Preschool Moderate Special Education Teacher will be responsible for teaching and evaluating students, developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and implementing programming for preschool students with moderate and intensive needs in an inclusive setting. A teacher in the ECC must have working knowledge of how to deliver an effective and differentiated curriculum that addresses social-emotional learning, language development, and general school/academic readiness. The successful candidate must demonstrate skills with behavior management techniques and interventions. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage a fluid caseload, including consistent parent communication, paraprofessional supervision, and other professional duties dictated by the students' IEPs.

Job Requirements:
  • MA DESE Special Education Licensure (Moderate Disabilities PreK-8)
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • United States citizenship, residency, or work VISA required
  • Proficiency in working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Possession of high energy and patience levels
  • Aptitude for leading, motivating, and understanding how to work with individuals with various physical, psychological, cognitive and sensory abilities
  • Ability to run, stand, sit, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, twist, push, and lift a child weighing 40 pounds


Preschool Moderate Special Needs Teacher Responsibilities:
  • Offer activities and instruction that will allow all levels of students to successfully engage in instruction and prepare them for success in Kindergarten, based upon the Common Core standards
  • Plan and deliver developmentally-appropriate curriculum, interventions, and solutions
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence
  • Participate physically with the students in all instructional activities
  • Manage student behavior and provide a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Collect and analyze data to drive instruction, develop IEPs, and improve student performance
  • Evaluate students in the areas of cognition, receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor, and self-help skills utilizing criterion referenced tests, norm referenced tests, and developmental tests appropriate to students' functioning levels
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes
  • Educate parents and other team members regarding the provision of services
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team assessments of a student and a student's family, and in the development of integrated goals and outcomes for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Participate in meetings (e.g., IFSP/IEP meetings, conferences, parent meetings, in-service training, etc.)
