JOB TITLE : Audiologist

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, Related Services

DEFINITION : To provide audiology services (prevention, assessment, intervention) and ongoing support to children, students, families and school staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Performs identification audiometry that includes:
  • threshold audiometric evaluations for pure tone air and bone conduction
  • speech reception and word recognition testing; middle ear measures
  • otoacoustic emissions screenings
  • screening of central auditory processing disorders.
    Completes middle ear and otoacoustic emissions screenings of students at BCPS's private separate day schools.

    Fits, manages and orders digital modulation systems for students.

    Serves as the qualified examiner for the Determination of Disability Coding of 02/Hearing Impairment and 03/Deafness as part of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) evaluation process.

    Completes, interprets and explains assessment results.

    Reviews audiological reports from other examiners.

    Provides input for classroom accommodations/modifications in the education setting.

    Assists in the planning and implementation of Section 504 plans and IEP/Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) as it relates to hearing status and digital modulation systems.

    Provides staff development to school personnel regarding hearing loss, amplification, digital modulation equipment, and accommodations/modifications.

    Offers ongoing support for students and school personnel related to the needs of students with hearing loss and community resources available to them.

    Assists students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families by providing information about hearing loss and its implications including strategies to maximize communication and language development.

    Consults with families, medical, educational, and community representatives regarding audiological interventions and follow-up.


Collaborates and participates in home visits when requested with the Baltimore County Infants and Toddlers Program.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
Possession of a Master's Degree in Audiology or Doctorate of Audiology (AuD).
Three (3) years recent audiology experience.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of current Maryland Department of Health Audiologist License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of the principals and practices of educational audiology.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
Skill in the use and maintenance of audiology materials and equipment.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally performed in office and school environments. Travel to schools and/or homes throughout the county is required. Work includes the operation of office equipment, audiology equipment, computers and assistive technology devices. Limited physical activities may be required.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $79.75 An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
