TITLE: Art Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the certification requirements of the State of Delaware Department of Education.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal (or Assistant)
JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the pupil's interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation and Department of Education guidelines.
Start Date: August 20, 2018

The following are conditions of employment for new employees:
1. Satisfactory criminal background check prior to being placed on payroll.
2. Satisfactory child protection registry check.
3. Mandatory direct deposit of pay
4. Documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgements about art.
- Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
- Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
- Establishes and maintains standard of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive student environment.
- Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
- Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
- Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
- Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils' work for the school and the community.
- May sponsor exhibits from outside the school.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period.
- Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
- Communicates with parents and school counselor on pupil progress.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or on a district level.
- Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to art instruction.
