    DIRECTOR OF FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES

    General Responsibility:
    The Director of Food and Nutrition Services for the Bridgeport School District is responsible for the administration of the food services programs offered in schools, in accordance with the federal and state-established guidelines for service of breakfast and lunch programs. This responsibility entails supervising and monitoring district-wide food service operations, in an effective, efficient manner that ensures proper nutrition and safeguards the health of students, staff and visitors.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    ·Supervises and monitors the district-wide food service operations (planning, scheduling, coordinating activities, training, advising, evaluating etc.), in a manner that achieves the goal of optimal effectiveness, efficiency and safety.
    ·Prepares and administers the department budget.
    ·Plans menu offerings based on principles of good nutrition and established federal guidelines.
    ·Develops and administers accounting procedures and records required for proper control and management of budget dollars, labor, food supply and other related costs.
    ·Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety in all phases of the school food service program.
    ·Inspects and visits school facilities and operations on a regular basis to ensure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health and safety are being maintained.
    ·Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals required for district-sponsored events.
    ·Purchases food, supplies and small equipment utilizing the school district approved purchasing system, reviews and evaluates all requests and recommendations for the purchase of new and replacement equipment.
    ·Consults, as needed, with school planners and construction management on plans and specifications for new or renovated food preparation centers.
    ·Assists principals and teachers in the instructional phases of the food services program as it pertains to nutrition.
    ·Informs the school-wide community of planned menus on a weekly basis and as needed, provide training in regard to nutrition and diet, food allergens and other topics related to food and nutrition services.
    ·Administers personnel policies and audits all food service personnel payrolls.
    ·Supervises and is responsible for all applications for federal subsidies.
    ·Audits all bills and purchase orders for accuracy, checks all government reimbursements and plans dispositions of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service program.
    ·Serves as a liaison with state and federal offices regulating child nutrition programs, for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information related to requirements and regulations.
    ·Recommends changes regarding operating procedures to the Chief Financial Officer and Superintendent of Schools.
    ·Ensures compliance with all applicable policies of the Board of Education.
    ·Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    ·Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field OR Bachelor's degree in any academic major, and State recognized certificate for school nutrition directors, OR Bachelor's degree in any academic major and at least 5 years of experience in management of school nutrition programs. New Directors: Master's degree, or willingness to work towards master's degree, preferred. At least one year of management experience, preferably in school nutrition, strongly recommended. At least 3 credit hours at the university level in food service management plus at least 3 credit hours in nutritional sciences at time of hiring strongly preferred.
    ·At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years prior to their starting date or completed within 30 days of the employee's start date.
    ·Must exhibit excellent working knowledge of National School Meal program laws and regulations, computers and software for budget preparation, analysis and financial reporting; must have excellent analytical and forecasting skills.
    ·Proficient knowledge of the USDA Meal Compliance Worksheets and CEP district designation.
    ·Proficient knowledge of the COLYAR online meal reporting system for Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Claims.
    ·Capacity for leadership and ability to organize, delegate and supervise personnel.
    ·Demonstrated proficiency in human relations skills.
    ·Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
    ·Proficient in computer technology.

    SALARY RANGE:
    $90,000 - $115,000
