MISSION
YouthBuild Public Charter School (YouthBuild PCS) is an alternative high school for young people seeking to transform their lives by re-engaging in their education in a non-traditional school environment. YouthBuild PCS prepares students for post secondary education and the workplace by offering, in English and Spanish, academic, vocational and workforce development programs. YouthBuild PCS believes that service to the community is an essential part of the transformative process. Therefore, students serve their community through volunteer projects and by creating housing for low-income residents in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

RESPONSIBILITIES
At substitute teacher at YouthBuild PCS will perform specific responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
  • Implement lesson plans left by classroom teacher; ensure all material is covered;
  • Take responsibility for performing classroom duties and any special duties performed by the absent teacher;
  • Adhere to the daily routine and schedule provided by classroom teacher.
  • Present academic content through a variety of instructional strategies to reach all learners;
  • Maintain a safe and productive learning environment by implementing classroom procedures, systems, and routines that provide structure for students and maximize instructional time;
  • Communicate and enforce high expectations and standards for behavior and academic performance;
  • Communicate outcome of the day to classroom teacher through note or communication log;
  • Follow school-wide procedures for communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree, or sixty (60) college credits;
  • Applicants must have a strong desire to impact student achievement and enjoy working with youth;
  • Previous experience working with high school age youth is highly desirable;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Able to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, and the community;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a respect for all;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively multitask; and
  • Flexibility and a desire to work as part of a team.
