    Bilingual Language Assessor Manager

    General Statement of Duties: Works under the supervision of the Bilingual Education Department. Administers language assessment scale (LAS oral and written) to all incoming students that speak another language other than English and when needed for placement or PPT.

    Specific Examples of Duties: (Not limited to duties listed below)
  • Manages the identification and placement process of English Learners.
  • Administers Language Assessment Scale (LAS Oral and Written) to all incoming students to Waterbury School District that speak another language other than English and when needed for identification, placement or PPT. (English or Spanish)
  • Discusses test results and programs available in the District to parents and staff & makes referrals when necessary.
  • Trains and informs district's personnel on policies and procedures to be followed in placing Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.
  • Updates all students' records in the Bilingual/ESOL Education Department.
  • Inputs on an on-going basis all student data necessary to fulfill the mandates of the program evaluations, annual reports, and various other local, state, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Plans appointments for testing, manages Language Assessors' schedules, coordinates testing with the school or technology staff and travels to schools to administer tests.
  • Provides translations verbally and in writing.
  • Assists in the identification and assessment of exiting candidates following established procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelors or Associates degree/equivalent preferred.
    • Experience working with a diverse, multicultural and multilingual population.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish.
    • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Proficient in computer technology.
    • Possess a valid driver's license with own transportation.

    Work Year/Hours of Work: Twelve months; 35 hours per week.
    Salary/Benefits: $16.80 - $21.14 per hour. This position is part of and covered by the terms of the UPSEU Local 424-Unit 69 collective bargaining agreement.

    This is a grant funded position that exists as long as funds are available.
