Boston Public Schools seeks an Assistant Director - Related Services

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Special Education

Position Overview:
The Assistant Director (AD) provides Leadership support to the Related Services constituents under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent (or Designee). The AD will serve as a member of both the OSE Executive Team and the OSE Staff Group. Additionally the AD will be responsible for developing; service assignments for schools and strategic plans geared towards the improvement of student outcomes and high quality instruction.

Responsibilities:
Leadership support:
  • Speech/Language Pathologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physical Therapists
  • Adaptive Physical Education Teachers
  • Teachers of the Deaf
  • Audiologists
  • Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists
Partnerships with other OSE leaders:
  • Manager for Compliance and Quality Assurance
  • Senior Program Director for Mediation and 504
  • Assistant Directors for Schools and Settings
Collaborations:
  • Families as partners in planning and problem solving
  • Office of Human Resources and Labor Relations Department
  • Office of Finance - Budget, Payroll, Purchasing, Contracts Departments
  • Office of the Legal Advisor
  • Community-Based Organizations
Professional Development/Guidance Support:
  • Principals and Headmasters
  • Teachers, Support Service Providers, and Related Service Providers

The Assistant Director performs other related duties as requested by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education

Qualifications-Required:
  • Masters Degree in a related services field
  • Certification in Special Education or related field
  • Certification in Supervision or Administration
  • Three (3) years experience providing services in urban special education or related field
  • Experience providing leadership and supervision in urban special education or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education regulations and best practices

Qualifications-Preferred:
  • Experience in special education administration and supervision
  • Proficiency in a language other than English


Terms: BASAS, Group 11B, 12 months, 220 days
