The ideal candidate will be a specialist in the field and will have the passion and skills to create a learning environment that will offer a rigorous pre-professional arts training that challenges students to achieve at high levels. Instructors at Pittsburgh CAPA will be required to differentiate instruction; design lesson and unit plans that properly assess student achievement and encourage artistic skill development and critical thinking. The ultimate goal is to help CAPA piano, vocal and instrumental students improve their skills and creative capacity while nurturing their passion for music. Candidates should be comfortable with various genres of music and be able to serve as both a teacher and accompanist for ensembles, lessons and performances. The position will be 17 hours a week (mornings and afternoons) and does not include health care benefits.

Qualifications:
- Practicing artist with proven performing and teaching history.

- Bachelor's degree in music, Masters degree preferred.

- Teaching experience with diverse audiences - middle and/or high school, private studio and/or classroom settings.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Collaborative and creative team player.

- Collaborative work with community organizations.

- Extensive accompanying skills with ability to read 4-part open scores for choral ensembles.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Prepare structured classroom lessons that encourage and foster skill development, critical thinking, applications, and ethics.

2. Regularly assess student achievement, skill mastery and career development skills.

3. Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of musical styles.

4. Assist students with the development of technical skills and creative expression.

5. Teach piano class to vocal and instrumental majors.

6. Teach Arts Advocacy and Community Outreach class to piano majors.

7. Accompany choral ensembles and student soloists.

8. Teach private piano lessons to piano major students.

9. Foster creative thinking, performance, and improvisation.

10. Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
