The Educational Assistant I - School Support Aide assists the classroom teacher in carrying out the school goals and policies, as well as objectives in the established curriculum in the school.

Please note that this position is split across two campuses and requires reliable transportation.

Reports To: Principal

Salary:
Paraprofessional Salary Schedule EAI (Starting at $2, 600/month)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 48 college credits are required.

- Ability to handle disruptive students in a positive manner.

- Previous work experience with students and working with students in a group preferred.

- Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.

Residency Requirements: City of Pittsburgh Residency Required

Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists the classroom teacher with the use of instructional materials and technology.

2. Works with small groups and/or individual children as assigned.

3. Monitors and/or tutors children.

4. Monitors student classroom activities and assists in preparation.

5. Assumes responsibility for the arrangement and presentation of specialized and audio-visual materials.

6. Supports the emotional and social growth of children by assisting them in developing caring interaction skills.

7. Prepares materials for assignments as directed by the teacher.

8. Duplicates materials.

9. Assumes responsibility for assistance with bulletin boards, field trips, parties, group work, clean-up activities, files, book counts, clerical duties, classroom supplies, and snacks.

10. Provides assistance in monitoring children before and after school.

11. Provides conflict resolution/mediation assistance when necessary.

12. Assumes bus, study hall, playground, lunch room, and hall monitoring duties.

Additional Job Information:
Work Environment:
1. Frequently required to work at fast pace.
2. Required to be able to physically implement restraints as directed through specific restraint training when a student is in danger of hurting self or others.
3. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
