Job Title: Part-Time Math Tutor

Compensation: $25/hour

Position Start Date: September 2018-May 30, 2019

Responsible to: School Principals

10-19 hours/per week

Job Description

The Salem Public Schools is seeking a Math Tutor to support students in developing competence in basic mathematical skills, conceptual understanding, and problem solving. Instructional support will be delivered through individual and small group instruction. There are several available positions (elementary and/or middle school).

Qualifications

Applicant must hold the following credentials:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Progressing toward certification in math preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 year teaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Proficiency in a teaching/tutoring capacity as acquired through prior experience in tutoring, teaching or other education-related experience; evidence of successful experience in student and parent relations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and small group instruction for students within the context of the classroom by using specialized instructional strategies to ensure success in mathematics.
  • Plan and implement student-centered, engaging math lessons based on state standards that develop student critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, other available technology methods and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Provide progress-monitoring for students receiving additional supports.
  • Maintain weekly schedule; collaborate with others.
