SUMMARY

Provides preventive health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems which would later be more difficult and costly to address. Supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Adhere to state guidelines for nursing to ensure the health and wellness of students and staff.
• Conduct daily nursing procedures including but not limited to dispensing of medications and data entry of office visits.
• Communicate with parents, physicians, staff and community as necessary to ensure student and staff wellness. Maintain confidentiality of all medial cases following state and federal laws
• Accompany students with medical needs requiring nursing support on community outings and field trips.
• Collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.
• Participate in IEP meetings where IEP or 504 plans are put together with academic team as required.
• Coordinate the delivery of health and wellness services to students and their families in and outside of

• Report progress on a monthly basis to parents (written or verbal) as needed.
• Enforce school wide procedures and rules.
• Attend meetings after school as necessary.
• Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Applicant must meet State of Delaware certification requirements as a School Nurse, hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, and possess strong interpersonal skills. Three to five years related experience and/or training preferred.
