SUMMARY The Choice Programming team works to provide cutting-edge, career-focused learning opportunities to thousands of Jeffco middle school and high school students and continues to experience expansive program growth. Through this career and college readiness education model students learn about different industries and companies, get information about a variety of college and career options, and engage in hands-on activities that tie what they are learning in the classroom to the real world. The Work-based Learning Specialist will support Jeffco schools in the execution of partnership initiatives, with a focus on work-based learning (PBL, job shadows, career mentoring and internships, and apprenticeships) and higher education activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Engage with companies, higher education partners, and multiple schools.

Manage large amounts of detail.

Focus on continuous improvement and on the student perspective.

Help identify companies to host students, coordinate career exploration and awareness experiences for their assigned school(s), coordinate successful mentorships and internships, and ensure the highest quality of program execution.

Develop effective work-based learning opportunities within Jeffco Schools departments (facilities, IT, food services etc.) to include job shadows, industry mentors, and internships.

Support activities related to the execution of centrally-coordinated work-based learning initiatives (job shadows, mentoring, and internships) and higher education activities for students, including but not limited to: Support teachers in the completion of activity pre-work. Support students as they participate in work-based learning and higher education activities. Coordinate registration and transportation for community college visits. Coordinate with counselors WBL activities to include industry and community college visits.

Assist CTE Coordinator with business and community engagement to include: Assist CTE teacher(s) with meeting their advisory committee requirements. Manage industry relationships for District Advisory meetings. Assist CTE Coordinator with tracking of advisory committee activity. Assist CTE student organization teacher advisors (CTSO) as needed.

Maintain communications with school faculty and staff (as needed) regarding work-based learning activities and initiatives.

Assist students on an individual/group basis with document completion (e.g., resume/cover letter writing, internship applications, mentor profiles, etc.).

Coordinate regularly with school counselors, Post-Secondary Workforce Readiness coordinator, Student Engagement representatives and other pre-collegiate partners in the school and district

Assist in the promotion and execution of district-wide college and career ready events such as 10th grade Career Expo and job fairs.

Coordinate with Jeffco Workforce Center, area Chamber of Commerce, and Economic Development Council to grow and facilitate opportunities for students and industry.

Coordinate and prepare students for summer internship opportunities at designated sites.

Work under the leadership of the Assistant Director of Work-Based Learning to plan for the launch of a district-wide internship program.

Facilitate and participate in work group sessions related to internship curriculum development and process mapping.

Facilitate and participate in recruitment of internship company hosts in coordination with the CTE Coordinator identified pathways.

Provide case management and support of students placed in internships: Meet with internship supervisor and student on a regular basis to monitor progress and discuss any concerns. Provide coaching to student and/or work-place supervisor to ensure positive outcomes. Facilitate development of action plan for performance issues when warranted. Monitor the situation to make sure both supervisor and student expectations are met. Manage paperwork associated with the internships such as contracts, training plan, evaluations and timesheets. Support internship supervisors when an urgent need arises. Manage worker compensation claims. Assist with meaningful closure if internship is terminated prematurely. Ensure student is in a safe work environment and contact Assistant Director for WBL if concerns arise

Participate in training and professional learning as required for the work.

Actively promote, and attend when needed, college and career opportunities within CTE Pathways, including career fairs, college admissions events, summer programs, parent meetings, etc., as part of a larger College and Career Readiness work in Jeffco.

As directed by school leadership, provide occasional support for planning, execution, and logistics for work-based learning activities.

Participate in Choice Programming and Curriculum and Instruction meetings as part of moving the Jeffco Generations Vision forward.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Colorado teaching certificate or CTE certificate or applicable experience.

EXPERIENCE Demonstrated education and related experience that includes three to five or more years of experience working with youth. (Teacher, counseling license or related experience preferred)

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Proven ability to work with industry, business, and community partners. Highly developed organizational skills. Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills. Flexible and adaptive to changing needs as the work-based learning program in Jeffco is built.
