POSITION: Reading Teacher
LOCATION: South Dover Elementary
REPORTS TO: Principal
STARTING DATE: August 2018
Overview:
- Knowledge of the elements of a balanced, integrated, and comprehensive literacy curriculum with expertise in supporting student learning in reading and writing
- Knowledge of a conceptual framework for literacy development that informs teaching practices
- Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and practices that should be used in delivering reading interventions
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and how to coach teachers in using these strategies in the classroom
- Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI), Title I and Special Education programs, and alignment of the guidelines and procedures for IEPs
- Serves as a resource to classroom teachers and helps to create an environment that fosters and supports reading and writing achievement
- Diagnoses, monitors and documents the reading progress of struggling readers
- Utilizes a variety of assessment tools and practices to plan and evaluate effective reading and writing instruction
- Works closely with the Reading Team to plan and monitor the school improvement process, to support professional development, to collect and analyze student assessment data, and to provide professional materials and resources for staff
- Helps to coordinate Reading and Literature Nights for families
- Works cooperatively with all staff members
- Participates in Professional Book Study Groups to enhance professional growth

Qualification:
- Certified teacher. Classroom experience in teaching reading.
- Experience with teaching reading to young students.
Standard Requirements:
- Favorable Criminal Background Check for the candidate who is offered employment.
