BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education (GED) with an associate degree in food service preferable; four years of institutional food service experience and previous supervisory experience; or any combination of experience and training that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Thorough knowledge of cafeteria operation, equipment, and practices. Knowledge of health code and USDA requirements. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with cafeteria personnel, students, and school community. Ability to perform the tasks of all subordinates. Ability to extend a recipe and accurately determine food requirements. Ability to prepare and maintain necessary records and work schedules. Ability to organize, delegate, train, supervise, and evaluate all subordinates. Ability to enforce and maintain sanitation and safety regulations and requirements. Ability to prepare new and different food from a recipe. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:
This work involves participation in and supervision of food preparation, serving duties, cashiering duties, and cleaning activities in a large multi-unit managed school. The supervisory element of responsibility is usually exercised over food production and other cafeteria operations under the direction of the cafeteria manager who reviews work through observation and who provides advice and assistance in unusual or difficult situations. Work must be completed within a tight time frame.

DIMENSIONS:
Grade 5; 6.5 hours per day

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:
Assumes responsibility for the operation of the food service program in the absence of the manager. Assists the manager in training and supervising cafeteria workers. Supervises food production and service per cafeteria manager's direction. Assists cafeteria manager with the preparation of records such as inventories, forecasting, recipe extension, daily records, etc. Plans with manager the daily work schedule of employees. Provides assistance in food preparation and service when needed. Assists manager with counting and rolling money and preparing daily bank deposit. Acts as cashier, server, or backup during the serving period if necessary. Ensures serving lines are set up and ready by the beginning of the serving period. Supervises and assists in cleaning equipment and kitchen facilities. Operates various school kitchen equipment such as dishwasher, mixers, disposal units, slicer, ovens, steam compartment cookers, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $18,852 - $25,809/year ($16.67 - $22.82/hour)
