SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

Coordinate the library media program in the building.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Instruct students in library media skills.
  2. Provide information and reference services and materials.
  3. Provide production services and materials.
  4. Determine and apply suitable criteria for the evaluation and selection of materials.
  5. Organize materials and equipment.
  6. Contribute effectively to curriculum development.
  7. Work with other faculty members to improve the instructional program.
  8. Assume administrative responsibilities as assigned; i.e., budget and personnel.
  9. Maintain appropriate records.
  10. Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Qualifies for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
  2. Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.
  3. Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self-discipline.
  4. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  5. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  6. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
  7. Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills.
  8. Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  9. Sets and attains high level of expectations with a commitment to using available resources in a way that accomplishment occurs.
  10. Develops favorable relationships with students; listens to, cares for, and works collaboratively with them.
  11. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a confidential manner.
  12. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to learn new ideas and skills and for solving problems; the possession of a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 is expected. (This requirement may be waived if an inadequate pool of fully qualified applicants for a specific position exists.)
  14. Aware of current educational developments and applications, works collaboratively with others, believes in the importance of education, and interested in the welfare of all students.
  15. Uses democratic processes to work out problems in a supportive and understanding nonauthoritarian manner.
  16. Integrates technology into planning, learning, and record-keeping activities.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

"Teacher-librarian" means a certificated teacher with a library media endorsement under rules adopted by the professional educator standards board.

The teacher-librarian's duties may include, but are not limited to, collaborating with his or her schools to:
  • Integrate information and technology into curriculum and instruction, including but not limited to instructing other certificated staff about using and integrating information and technology literacy into instruction through workshops, modeling lessons, and individual peer coaching.
  • Provide information management instruction to students and staff about how to effectively use emerging learning technologies for school and lifelong learning, as well as in the appropriate use of computers and mobile devices in an educational setting.
  • Help teachers and students efficiently and effectively access the highest quality information available while using information ethically.
  • Instruct students in digital citizenship including how to be critical consumers of information and provide guidance about thoughtful and strategic use of online resources.
  • Create a culture of reading in the school community be developing a diverse, student-focused collection of materials that ensures all students can find something of quality to read and by facilitating school-wide reading initiatives along with providing individual support and guidance for students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

WORK YEAR: Certificated employees are contracted for a 180-day work year for a full year contract. BENEFITS - Fringe benefits for employees .5 or greater FTE include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and long-term disability coverage are provided for employees who work at least half-time or more in a regular position. In addition, employees have access to a variety of optional benefits through payroll deduction. SITE GOVERNANCE - Completion of transfer, reassignment to another location, change of position, promotion, or new hire is contingent upon the individual's agreement to sign the charter and any variances which may exist at the site and agreement to work within the framework of any covenant and principles of learning as determined by the site.
