JOB TITLE : Director, Office of Mathematics

REPORTS TO : Executive Director, Academics

DEFINITION : Provides leadership to the Office of Mathematics PreK-12 in the development, implementation, and administration of mathematics education instructional programs and curricula aligned with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards. Facilitates support for services to schools, students, and families. Ensures that the programs address and support the system-wide goals and priorities identified in Blueprint 2.0, the S.T.A.T. initiative, and aligns with MSDE College and Career-Ready State Standards for mathematics for grades 6-12.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Ensures that the Office of Mathematics PreK-12 supports the system-wide goals and priorities identified in Blueprint 2.0 and the Master Plan . Revises curriculum, instructional techniques, and support to schools to facilitate meeting those goals.
  • Articulates and directs the total mathematics program PreK-12.
  • Facilitates the development and refinement of the curriculum of Mathematics PreK-12 and ensures the alignment of the curricula to the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards and to other assessment requirements.
  • Develops and identifies assessments in mathematics that are integrated and aligned with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, and monitors progress in meeting the achievement goals as defined in the Blueprint 2.0 and the Master Plan.
  • Identifies and recommends prevention, intervention, and enrichment opportunities for students in Mathematics PreK-12.
  • Provides leadership in the identification of research-based strategies to support instruction in Mathematics PreK-12.
  • Provides a list of approved mathematics textbooks, instructional materials, and software for schools for Mathematics PreK-12.
  • Provides opportunities for teachers to obtain and maintain highly qualified status in elementary, middle school, and high school mathematics.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with external partners that benefit schools and support system priorities.
  • Provides parents, guardians, and community stakeholder groups with information concerning the mathematics instructional program expectations for prek-12.
  • Ensures that the roles and responsibilities of the Office of Mathematics PreK-12 are implemented in accordance with the school system's policies, procedures, and curriculum guidelines and without duplication of the services of other offices.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with the Department of Professional Development for the delivery of professional development for the Office of Mathematics PreK-12 and schools.
  • Prepares and manages the annual operating budget for mathematics instruction Prekindergarten to grade 12.
  • Aids in the development, interpretation, and implementation of policies and procedures for the Baltimore County Public Schools.
  • Evaluates the performance, professional growth, and development of personnel within the office.
  • Develops and administers operating, capital, and other budgets, and monitors business operations to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources. Plans, budgets, and controls department expenditures and grants.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a field related to the assignment, with at least fifteen additional hours of approved graduate and/or in-service credit; plus six years of progressively responsible leadership/management experience in mathematics education in a public educational setting.


Licenses and Certificates :
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with an Administrator I endorsement is required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
  • Demonstration of content knowledge and understanding of prek-12 instructional practices in mathematics.
  • Technology competency.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstration of strong leadership, management, and human relations skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

Work schedules may include evenings and weekends. Employees may be required to work beyond their normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $79.75. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
