PURPOSE: To provide translating and interpreting services, in Spanish, for families in order to assist parents in being active participants in their children's education.

REPORTS TO: Director of Communications

LOCATION: This position is located in the Administration Building while supporting all schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide translating of District and school documents designed to inform parents. These include but are not limited to: District and school letters, announcements, notices, webpage information, articles, flyers, community resources, etc.Communicate with Hispanic parents on a daily basis via phone calls, emails and face-to-face interactions.Coordinate and prioritize interpreting needs at the District and schools in consultation with the Director of EL & Bilingual Programs.Maintain confidentiality of district information, student, and staff information. Utilizes confidential and personal information for professional purposes in accordance with school district policies and regulations.Utilize technology and computer skills to prepare & create documents, distribute phone & email messages, and access District and school information/forms.Create/Schedule automated mass phone calls and email messages for Spanish-speaking families.Work with students and their parents in order to complete registration, screening, conference meetings and activities in a timely manner. Attend after-school and evening meetings as identified by the Director of EL & Bilingual Programs.Increase parent and family involvement in schools and establish effective communication between home and school with Hispanic families.Log and monitor interpreting services provided to the schools.Complete work in established time frame: seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed.Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to: photocopying, faxing, mail distribution and filing.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to speak, write and read in Spanish & English is requiredPrevious Spanish translation experience preferredHigh School Diploma required; college degree preferredExperience working in a school environment is preferredKnowledge and ability in the area of public relations, writing and communicationsExcellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to organize, prioritize and to be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks and changing priorities.Strong computer and word processing skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds of materials. It also requires the use of a computer, good vision, hearing, and speech for effective communication.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time (1.0 FTE), 12 month position starting July 2018.
