POSITION TITLE

Science Teacher - International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Science Teacher (Center for Inquiry 327)

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Work collaboratively with middle school team of teachers to plan and implement an inquiry-based, model science curriculum within an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and build community within the school.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

Certification: Valid Indiana Teacher's License in Middle School Science (grades 6-8)

EXPERIENCE

Required experience includes:
  • Personal instructional philosophy compatible with Center for Inquiry and International Baccalaureate programs.
  • Training/experience in inquiry-based process-centered curriculum-writing, social action projects, performance-based assessments, and technology integration.
  • Training/experience in cooperative learning, student learning styles, collegial teaching/team building.


Experience and demonstrated skills include:
  • Three or more years successful teaching experience within an IB candidate or fully authorized MYP school and International Baccalaureate training
  • Collaborate with teaching teams and develop and use interdisciplinary curriculum to provide appropriate, motivating educational experiences.
    • Demonstrate commitment to equitable practices, embrace cultural, racial, gender, orientation, and economic diversity, and support an international focus within the curriculum.
    • Ability to work in an inclusive environment.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
    • Develop and write curriculum proficiently in collaboration with a variety of people.
    • Conduct evaluation of students using alternative forms of assessment.
    • Working in inclusive environment.
    • Willingness to engage in co-teaching and co-planning.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

· Collaborate with a variety of people as well as other Magnet-Option Program teachers to coordinate curriculum development, instruction, and to plan themes and projects for interdisciplinary instruction aligned with IB.

· Incorporate the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile attributes, IB themes, skills, attitudes, concepts, and actions into the curriculum.

· Maintain a model classroom environment supportive of student inquiry and aligned with Middle Years IB program and Indiana Academic Standards.

• Work with other teachers to plan themes and projects for interdisciplinary instruction.

• Establish an educational environment with international focus that provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and positive self-images.

• Actively encourage parent involvement in the educational process.

• Actively seek and use community resources to enhance the instructional program.

• Willingly participate in innovative instructional and assessment activities including the design and preparation of proposals and reports.

• As part of a demonstration site, graciously accept visitors and observers to the classroom and mentor university interns.

· Willingly engage in co-teaching and co-planning.

· Participate in IB training, which may include traveling to regional sites or engaging in online coursework.

• Participate in all staff and curriculum development workshops and professional reading groups, sometimes held during the summer and/or outside of the regular instructional day. After school activities will not exceed 4 hours/week.
