    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Assistant Director will plan, organize, manage and coordinate functions and services of the District's Building and Grounds Department. The Assistant Director will manage compliance activities for District's Buildings and Grounds operations, including oversight of functions and personnel. The Assistant Director will assume all responsibility for management of department services in the absence of the Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification/Experience
    • High school graduation or equivalent, and five years of paid, verifiable, management level experience, of which two years must have been in a facilities maintenance and operations leadership role. College degree preferred.
    • Valid Illinois/Missouri driver's license

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)
    • Provide oversight of District Buildings & Grounds functions, including repair of buildings, utility services (including underground utilities), warehousing, inventory, energy management, material delivery, and general services programs.
    • Manage compliance activities associated with District services and operations, ensuring reporting requirements are met and certificates of compliance are complete.
    • Supervise buildings and ground staff assigned throughout the District. Coordinate with supervisors and school administrators to organize and direct District custodial and maintenance services related to building and grounds operations; support and direct the work of departmental staff regarding buildings and grounds projects.
    • Train, supervise, and evaluate the work performance of assigned staff; recommend personnel actions, including employment, change in status, and disciplinary action.
    • Administer departmental employee orientation and training; evaluate performance, maintains records and ensure job training requirements are being met.
    • Coordinate training for new technologies and equipment supported by District Buildings and Grounds Department.
    • Assist in Preparing and monitoring budget for assigned functions, review budget reports to compare actuals against the forecasts, and provide explanations of variances as necessary.
    • Assist in compiling data and prepare narrative explanations; prepare various reports for submission to the Director, Operations and Risk Management. Prepare documents and maintain records, reports, and files as necessary; operate computers and peripheral equipment.
    • Inspect District buildings and grounds for needed maintenance and repair. Make recommendations regarding deferred and preventative maintenance.
    • Work with outside contractors as needed for corrective actions.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Inside/outside environment; all types of weather, snow, rain, wind, heat and cold; frequently noisy, dirty, and dusty; vibration from equipment or tools; sometimes includes close quarters.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Walking, standing, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to monitor various activities; read documents, kneeling, bending at the waist, sitting and standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at the waist; lifting heavy objects of fifty pounds are common. Requires manual dexterity, repetitive motions, hand/eye coordination, strength and endurance; occasional work at heights, requires alertness to potential hazards common in Building and Grounds activities.
