POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coordinator of K-5 English Language Arts (ELA) provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the ELA curriculum program and ensures the effective implementation of the Georgia Standards of Excellence. The Coordinator develops, implements, and monitors the K-5 ELA programs within the schools, and provides leadership for district-wide literacy initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive ELA curriculum for all K-5 schools including: scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, units of study, and balanced assessments.
  2. Ensures the K-5 ELA program is in alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for K-5 ELA.
  3. Provides leadership in the writing of minimum/essential objectives and implementation of effective instructional practices to support the K-5 ELA curriculum.
  4. Coordinates the selection of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks to support the implementation of ELA standards.
  5. Assesses the impact of the ELA curriculum with the overall curriculum to ensure students receive a balanced offering.
  6. Supports, where applicable, the implementation of the signature programs (International Baccalaureate, STEM, and College & Career Readiness).
  7. Integrates social emotional learning (SEL) within the ELA curriculum.
  8. Supports the development of a proposed annual budget relating to curriculum development and the instructional materials needs of all K-5 schools.
  9. Utilizes technology as a critical means for delivering, assessing, and transforming the teaching and learning of ELA.
  10. Assists with the development of district benchmark assessments for K-5 ELA.
  11. Reviews and evaluates results of state and district assessments, and recommends appropriate modifications to the ELA program.
  12. Assists with the development and facilitation of district and school-based professional learning for administrators, teachers, instructional aides, and parent volunteers to assist in raising the level of instructional performance and student achievement in ELA.
  13. Builds coherence with the Early Learning literacy program to ensure a PreK-3 alignment.
  14. Collaborates with other departments within the Schools and Academic Office as well as other divisions by providing technical assistance and support in the development and/or implementation of district programs, practices, and processes.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
  16. Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Possesses strong leadership traits with the ability to lead people and provide direction;
  • Takes initiative, detailed oriented, and is highly organized;
  • Has a deep working knowledge of instructional effective practices, balanced assessments, and data analysis;
  • Has expertise working with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for K-5 ELA, and a deep understanding of the five elements of reading;
  • Possesses computer skills - Microsoft Office.


Requirements: EDUCATION:
  • Master?s degree in education, education leadership, or a related field required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification at a level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership or Instructional/Curriculum Leadership.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years of classroom teaching experience required, preferably at the elementary level in the field of literacy.
  • Three years of supervisory and/or administrative experience preferred.


Compensation: SALARY GRADE: 133
SALARY RANGE: $75, 798 to $104, 223
WORK DAYS: 254 Days (Annual)

FLSA Status: Exempt
